On September 1, 2011, anyone who bought a 3DS before the price drop in Japan and North America will both receive their first bribe. I mean, they’ll be able to download their first free batch of 3DS Ambassador games. Nintendo Japan is a little more on top of things it seems, as it’s already announced the 10 games that are part of that program, while Nintendo of America continues to leave us in suspense.
Anyways, if you have a Japanese 3DS, here’s what you’ll be able to get from the eShop Thursday…
NES 25th Anniversary Tribute: My favorite 10 NES games
As many of you may know, the Nintendo Entertainment System turned 25 this year. The NES is the second biggest selling system of all time with 61 billion sales, the first biggest being the Wii.
I loved the NES when I was a kid (and still do!). I got this system when I was five and I actually still remember the day we got it and playing Super Mario Bros. for the first time.
In honor of NES’s anniversary, I’m sharing with you, in no particular order, my top ten favorite NES games. Though I could list a much bigger list since there were so many great games on the system, I have to force myself to limit it to only 10.
Super Mario Bros. turns 25 today
Today (September 13, 2010) we celebrate Super Mario’s 25th anniversary. The original Super Mario Bros. was released on this day in Japan in 1985. Even though Super Mario Bros. is a sequel to an arcade game from 1983, Super Mario Bros. is seen as the defining game that started one of the biggest videogame franchises ever created.
Gamertell Review: Hyperkin’s RetroN 3 three-in-one game system
When a company like Hyperkin comes out with a new console that will play my old carts and use my old controllers, I’ll gladly dust off old boxes to give those games a reminder of what a console feels like under its olde circuit board. This system works well but shipped with a component with a serious issue…
Gamertell Unboxing: Retron3 three-in-one game system (with photos)
Are your NES, SNES and Genesis games gathering dust? well climb into that attic and rip open those storage boxes. the Retron3 lets you play all three (and with wireless controllers). Gamertell got its grubby mitts on a Retron3 and wants to share the photos with you…
Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo headed to DS
Instead of starting work on a new entry in the Fire Emblem, Nintendo has decided to once again revitalize a past work and bring Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu to the DS. It’s understandable, even forgiveable, when you think about it though. The original Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo was an SNES game that contained a remake of and sequel to the NES game Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryu to Hikari no Tsurugi. That NES game was recently remade and released on February 16, 2009 as Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon for the DS.
It seems unlikely that Nintendo would rerelease another port of the original Fire Emblem game, so Andriasang’s guess that Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu will just be a remake of the sequel is probably correct. In the sequel, Marth discovers that he didn’t completely defeat the Dragon King Medeus. Hardin, Emperor of Akaneia, is taking over other countries and hunting down Marth after being corrupted by Medeus and Gharnef, the priest that killed Marth’s father. Marth has to get the Fire Emblem and Star Orb to save the day.
Nintendo also released a Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu DS trailer. Let’s take a look…
E3 2010: Hyperkin arranges a RetroN3 E3 debut
The RetroN3, a hybrid retro console, is going to be making a shining appearance at E3 2010. Hyperkin has announced that it will be attending the show, and using the appearance to showcase it’s NES, SNES and Genesis game playing device. The RetroN3 is a wireless console with wireless controllers, though you can use your original NES, SNES or Genesis controllers. The device has three cartridge slots on top, one to accomodate each system and six original controller ports, two for each system’s original controllers.
Hyperkin has also confirmed that anyone who stops by their booth (#523) in the South Hall will be able to see how the RetroN3 works firsthand. They’ll have the consoles set up to play, with classic game cartridges available to pop in.
You can actually already place an order online and pick up a RetroN3 of your own…
Play all your old games in one console with the RetroN 3
Hyperkin is trying to recreate the old school gaming experience and that’s what with its new RetroN 3 console.
The system features three cartridge slots on the top and it works with original NES, the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games. It has six controller ports, two for each of the original controllers and it comes with two wireless controllers of its own. And if all this old school goodness isn’t enough for you, then there’s the price. The RetroN 3 will sell for $69.99 US.
Important Importables: 10 great video games based on anime series
When animated series are successful enough, video game developers and publishers will try to cash in and create games that fans of the series will enjoy. While many of these games can fall under the shovelware umbrella, a few attempts stand out as truly entertaining and worthwhile endeavors.
This week’s installment of Important Importables is devoted to the best of the best, the anime games that were so good, even people who are unfamiliar with the original series seek them out. A few of them may seem incredibly familiar, as they even received worldwide releases. Rest assured though, the following 10 games and series are so good, you’ll enjoy them even if you’ve never even heard of the animes they’re based on.
Samus, Link and others aid Mario in Super Mario Crossover
It’s hard to improve on classic video game perfection, but ExplodingRabbit may have done just that with the free, browser-based, flash game Super Mario Crossover. As the title suggests, it’s a recreation of the original NES Super Mario game. However, in this reimagining Mario isn’t the only hero!
Of course, Mario is still there, but players can also choose other classic Nintendo characters to play as before each level. There’s Link from Legend of Zelda, Samus from Metroid, Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Mega Man from Mega Man and Bill from Contra. Each character has slightly different controls and different abilities, making the experience unique each time you play a level…
