Lego Universe can be played for free after August

So you’re a Lego nut and you’ve always been curious about Lego Universe, the Lego Group’s massive multiplayer online game, but aren’t real big on the whole paying $10 a month to play thing. Especially after you’ve already paid $19.99 for the base game. That’s okay. Not everyone is into that kind of thing. The Lego Group understands, and that’s why it’s going to add a free-to-play option.

Yes, starting in August 2011, Lego Universe is going to celebrate the cheap…

LEGO Universe purchased by The LEGO Group, layoffs ensue

NetDevil, the developers behind LEGO Universe, has reportedly gone through a wave of layoffs. News of this came from Toby Cochran, who was a character animator for NetDevil. Cochran also did some animation work on LEGO Universe. Staff started receiving the grim news yesterday (February 23, 2011) evening.

LEGO Universe goes live for certain players

LEGO Universe is almost here. The game will be released on October 26, 2010 for PC and Mac. If you pre-ordered the game “through LEGO sales channels” you can jump right in and start playing now as a part of LEGO Universe’s Founders Release.

LEGO Universe getting a trading card game

NetDevil’s Lego Universe MMO looks like a game in which imaginations can run wild, constructing everything from race cars to castles. The Universe has grown too big for just an MMO, so NetDevil is working with Dire Wolf Digital to create a Lego Universe Trading Card Game.

The license grants Dire Wolf rights to produce physical TCG products as well as digital products.

E3 2010: Hands-on with Jumpgate Evolution

The biggest problem with Jumpgate Evolution isn’t that it almost directly competes with EVE Online. Instead, the title’s problems stem from being in development for so long. There are times where this writer was doubtful he would ever see it completed. Seeing it at E3 2009 was like a breath of fresh air but even more »

LEGO Universe MMO beta signup opens

If you’ve always wanted to live in a LEGO world, the opportunity is drawing nearer. LEGO Universe, the massive multiplayer online game from NetDevil isn’t going to officially launch until either Fall or Winter, 2010, but the beta period will be starting soon. If you have the time to sign up for a free LEGO ID, answer a question about your online gaming habits, give your email address and click accept.

Signing up doesn’t confirm you’ll be picked to be one of the testers, but better to give it a try and not get picked than just sit back and know you won’t be part of it. If you get picked to be part of the LEGO Universe beta, you’ll be playing and working…

CES 2010 Hands On: LEGO Universe takes on the world of MMOs

In recent years, we’ve seen LEGO conquer the worlds of Indiana Jones, Batman and Star Wars, to name a few. Up next is NetDevil’s LEGO Universe, which takes everyone’s favorite constructible toys into the realm of MMOs. Hey, I was laughing when I heard the LEGO Star Wars idea initially.

CES 2010: Lego Universe demo making its debut

The primary focus of the Consumer Electronics Show is to showcase new electronics devices and accessories. In recent years though, it has also been used by video game publishers to show off upcoming games. For example, this year at CES 2010 the first Lego Universe demo is going to be making its debut.

The Lego Group announced in 2009 that it would be attending CES 2010 and showing off its forthcoming PC massive multiplayer game Lego Universe. It was only today that The Lego Group announced that the Lego Universe demo would be appearing for the first time at CES 2010.

Here’s what you’ll find at the booth, if you’re fortunate enough to attend the event. There are going to be Lego Universe demos running, so you can test out the game…

Hands on with Jumpgate Evolution at PAX 08

The entrance to PAX 08 had an impressive display of Jumpgate Evolution, a new MMO space combat game made by Codemasters Online and NetDevil. The moment I saw it, I couldn’t help but to compare it to Eve Online. It was hard not to, as it is an MMO game with spaceships.

Of course, no one can copyright the MMO space game and Jumpgate Evolution has one great aspect that sets it apart from Eve: Jumpgate Evolution skips through much of the boring set-up involved in most MMO games and puts you right into the action.

When I sat down and began playing, I was on a mission to…
