Valentine’s Day may not have been the best day for everyone. I mean, while I’m sure many people experienced loving and tender moments with the person most dear to them, there were probably quite a few people struggling through breakups and recovering from a faded love.
Since you probably have the day off today for Presidents Day, it’s a great day to practice some video game therapy. Get out your favorite system, pick up a game and use it to help you work through your issues. Gamertell has a few suggestions, in case you’re wondering what could be good to play…
First New Super Mario Bros. Wii pirate fined $1.3 million
If you’ve ever considered a secret life as a video game pirate, this latest news story concerning the fate of a New Super Mario Bros. Wii distributor should change your mind. Nintendo Australia has just announced that it has settled out of court with 24 year old James Burt, who had the (dis)honor of being the first man to hack, upload and distribute New Super Mario Bros. Wii online. Under terms of the settlement, Burt will have to pay $1.5 million dollars Australian (around $1.3 million dollars American) in damages to Nintendo. He’ll also have to pay $100,000 Australian (around $87,070 American).
New Super Mario Bros. Wii was released November 11, 2009 in Australia, earlier than any other region. It was released November 15, 2009 in North America, November 20, 2009 in Europe and December 3, 2009 in Japan. To make matters even worse, Burt managed to find a store in Australia selling New Super Mario Bros. Wii before the authorized sell date. Burt ended up getting New Super Mario Bros. Wii uploaded to the internet on November 6, 2009…
Over 10 million copies of New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold worldwide
New Super Mario Bros. Wii continues to prove just how successful Nintendo can be when it wants to. Nikkei Net is reporting the latest sale figure for the game, and has announced that it has sold over 10 million copies worldwide since it was released in November, 2009 in North America, Europe and Australia and and December 2009 in Japan. Pretty admirable figure for a game that’s been out for almost three months.
According to the Nikkei Net story, around 4.5 million copies of New Super Mario Bros. Wii were bought by North Americans. Japanese and Europeans each bought around 3 million copies of the games. Nikkei didn’t mention anything about the estimated Australian sales figures for the game…

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is now the fastest selling Wii game in Japan
There’s good news for Nintendo and New Super Mario Bros. Wii coming out of Japan today. Famitsu and Enterbrain have just released the sales figures of the latest Mario adventure, showing how well it sold during its first four days in Japan. Let’s just say it did very well. I think 936,734 copies qualities for very well. Maybe even for extraordinarily well.
This sales figure now means that it is the fastest selling Wii game in Japan. The previous record holder was another Nintendo game, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Its first week sales record was around 816,000 copies, according to Andriasang. That means New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold over 120,000 more copies.
Of course, this kind of success was already anticipated…

E3 2009: The 10 best games announced for the Wii
E3 2009 is all over now and the games have all been announced. It’s time to look at the best of the best, specifically for the Wii.
There were a ton of games announced at E3 that all look very good, so I limited it to the best ten, which really only makes this a sampling. Games are listed in no particular order.
E3 2009: Hands on with New Super Mario Bros. Wii
By far and away, the game I personally had the most fun with at this year’s E3 was Nintendo’s surprise sidescroller, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It’s an insanely fun multiplayer co-op experience that really combines old school Mario sensibilities with an almost Four Swords-ish approach to multiplayer.
E3 2009: Prepare for a multiplayer platforming experience in New Super Mario Bros Wii
As wonderful as the 3D Super Mario games are, like Super Mario Galaxy and the forthcoming Super Mario Galaxy 2, sometimes you long for a simpler time. A time when things were just as challenging, but only in 2D. DS owners got a taste of that with New Super Mario Bros., and at Nintendo’s E3 2009 press conference the company revealed that Wii owners will get to experience that same delightful sense of 2D nostalgia in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Best of all, it’ll be out for the 2009 holiday season.
Super Mario Bros. Wii‘s a sidescrolling Mario adventure with a twist, you can play alone or with four other players in co-operative or competitive multiplayer…
