Smartphones are consuming traditional gaming dollars

2010 saw a decrease in retail sales of videogames. Things weren’t exactly good for most individuals financially within that time period. Nielsen says money spent at retail on games decreased from 9.3% in 2009, to 8.5% in 2010. At the same time, consumers found themselves spending more money on entertainment options on mobile devices such as cell phones.

Survey says PS3 sales are not primarily driven by games

Over three weeks surrounding GoW III’s release, Nielsen surveyed 700 gamers between the ages of 7-54 who didn’t own a PS3. Results showed buying a specific game such as GoW III was the last reason gamers wanted to buy a PS3. The number one reason? Blu-ray movies. The second top motivator was the PS3′s price drop to $299.
