Console owners make up half of Netflix viewership

During Sony’s E3 2011 press conference, SCEA president Jack Tretton said the PS3 accounted for 30% of Netflix streaming. A new report from Nielson begs to differ. According to the report, the PS3 is not the dominant Netflix streaming console. However, the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii combined bring in half of Netflix’s streaming audience.

Nielsen survey shows Apple products are most popular amongst kids

A survey conducted in October by Nielsen has shown Apple as a dominant force in the eyes of children. The survey determined the purchase intent of popular electronic devices over the next six months. The most popular product was Apple’s iPad. A previous survey taken by Blackfriday.com also showed the iPad to be the top intended purchase on Black Friday.

Nielsen survey says people don’t like 3D glasses

The 3D craze has infiltrated the videogame industry on two fronts. The first is led by Sony with its stereoscopic 3D technology with required 3D glasses. Its closest competitor is Nintendo with its glasses-free 3DS handheld console. It’s too early to tell which side’s technology will emerge victorious, but if this Nielsen survey is any indication, Sony is in trouble.

Nielsen Wire reported all the official figures from Nielson concerning the top seven consoles. The PS2 game in first in terms of use, followed by the Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox, Playstation 3 and GameCube. There was also an ambiguous “others” given for seventh place, likely refering to all older consoles that alone didn’t have enough usage minutes to achieve a ranking.

I bet Sony is disappointed to see the PS3 come in fifth place. The original Xbox even beat the PlayStation 3…

Nielson Media report indicates PS2 most played console in June 2007

Nielson Media, the company responsible for the rating system that is the standard for judging TV viewership, released a report today (July 26, 2007) analyzing the gaming industry. The Nielson GamePlay Metrics studied aspects of the people’s gaming habits including games played, console or PC used, amount of time per day and time per session, to list only a few factors.

The report also looked at the family and individual player’s demographics, with results that suggests that, though it is the least expensive next-gen console on the market, Nintendo’s Wii is more commonly played in households with an annual income of greater than $100,000.

Another finding that may surprise the gaming layperson is that Sony’s Playstation 2 is reported to be the most played console in June 2007. Among the 33,000 respondants,…
