Valentine’s Day is quickly coming, but perhaps your loved one isn’t nearby. If you’re in the middle of a long distance love affair, it may be a good time to check out a free-to-play MMO, and take part in one of the special Valentine’s Day events to show your special someone just how much you care about him or her.

After all, nothing says devotion like staying at home, on your computer, for a minimum of two hours, all so you can complete certain objectives together and maybe earn some kind of special token that displays your feelings.

So let’s look at what some MMOs are up to…

It’s that time of year again – that wonderful time that Trickster Online Revolution fans relish. It’s Poppuri Drilling Event time. This time it’s episode IV: Rise of the Drillers. It’s going to start tomorrow (January 22, 2009), and then last until February 11, 2009.

What’s the big deal about Poppuri Drilling? It means free Cash Shop items just for drilling for Poppuri boxes in the game. The boxes in past events have contained Poppuri Tickets (which you can trade for special items) and also special items.

Depending on how many Poppuri boxes have been unearthed during the time period, special stages with special prizes will be doled out. As usual, if more than seven million boxes are dug up before the end of the event, all of the special stage prizes will be given out. Don’t gasp in surprise – it’s been done before. Back when I was able to play Trickster Online on my computer, and participated in a Poppuri Drilling Event, that milestone was reached…

Ntreev’s Trickster Online Revolution is already two years old, who would have thought? It looks so young. Of course, like all MMOs, Trickster Online Revolution is going to be celebrating the event with in-game events for players and contests. If you want to participate, you’ll want to log in between November 6-19, 2008. When you do, you’ll see the new Loading Art (at right) drawn by Iruru, winner of Ntreev’s Second Year Anniversary Loading Art Contest.

There are four main special events happening during Trickster Online Revolution‘s anniversary. The first is a rare item giveaway in Megalopolis – if you talk to Don Cavalier’s Hologram in that city, he’ll give your avatar something good…

Free massively multiplayer online (MMO) games are abundant these days, but the free part is often deceptive. Yes, the games can be played and enjoyed without breaking out a credit card but many feature a premium shop filled with exclusive little goodies.

In some cases cash, shop purchases will allow players to customize their character or items (weapons, pets, etc.) bought from the shop can make adventuring a little easier. In the case of Mabinogi, for example, certain shop purchases even allow players to participate in special quests and storylines…

So I decided to take a look through the premium cash shops in some of Aeria, Nexon and Ntreev’s games and determine just how much fun $10 can buy in some of Aeria, Nexon and Ntreev’s free MMOs.
