NPD and EEDAR form partnership to track physical and digital game sales
Every month, The NPD Group releases sales figures of video games that were sold at retail. Their data lets us know how many units a game or console sold. The problem with The NPD’s numbers is that they don’t cover games that are sold digitally. The digital market is huge and not counting it creates an inaccurate representation of videogame sales. Thanks to a new partnership between The NPD Group and analyst firm EEDAR, digital sales will no longer be left out.
Capcom joins Gaikai’s cloud gaming army
Capcom is the latest publisher to sign an agreement with the cloud gaming service Gaikai. Under this agreement, Capcom will provide Gaikai with unnamed games to use in its service. Capcom will also be able to stream games from its various websites thanks to Gaikai.
AT&T teams with Zynga to bring exclusive content to wireless customers
Zynga and AT&T announced a partnership today that will give AT&T customers exclusive access to Zynga content. Later this year, Zynga’s games such as FarmVille, Zynga Poker and Words with Friends will become more visible in AT&T’s place in the Android Market. This could help to make the already huge Zynga even bigger.

When I was younger, toys that came in kids meals were simple. Boys would get a tough action figure and girls would get a princess or pony. The most outrageous thing I ever received at a fast food restaurant was a VHS copy of Back to the Future. Now kids get full PC games. To be more specific, Taco Bell is giving away copies of MySims on PC in kids meals.
Armature Studios open for business
Three of the developers of the Metroid Prime series (Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Mathews) have signed a publishing contract with Electronic Arts, which announced the official opening Armature Studios with the trio.
The new company’s goal, according to a press release, is to develop unique console games that may one day change how games are played. Gaia Online becomes new market for virtual resource
Gaia Online just announced the release of celebrity-inspired items for Gaia users. This week’s items now allow registrants the opportunity to dress up their avatars as Snoop Dogg or The Incredible Hulk with hairstyles, purple pants, green fists and more. This marks the first time fully licensed celebrity-branded virtual items have been sold in the virtual world.
