PETA goes after Tanooki Mario
PETA is once again on the warpath. (What else is new.) Yet another video game has earned its ire. It’s not Skyrim, where you can kill animals like chickens, cows, dogs or bears though. No, instead the group has directed it’s wrath on Mario. Super Mario 3D Land, to be exact. Why? Because Super Mario 3D Land has brought back the Tanooki. PETA’s upset because it immediately sees Tanooki Mario and figures he had to kill and skin a cute little animal to get the outfit and ability to fly.
Anyways, let’s give a quick summary of what’s what Super Tanooki Skin 2D is all about…
Michael Vick makes Final Four in fan voting for Madden NFL 12 cover
Are EA Sports marketing employees allowed to vote for the Madden NFL 12 cover? Because a few are probably uncomfortable at the thought of Michael Vick adorning the cover of the world’s most popular football game.
For the second straight year, EA Sports is allowing fans to vote for the cover athlete. Michael Vick has made the semifinals of the vote after his football rebirth in Philadelphia. A large number of football fans have forgiven Vick for his involvement in dog fighting but many animal activists haven’t.
Team Meat bringing Tofu Boy to Super Meat Boy
PETA, in response to Team Meat’s successful PC and Xbox 360 indie game Meat Boy, released a computer game called Super Tofu Boy. Super Tofu Boy was packed with “fun” anti-mean facts and starred Tofu Boy, who was now involved with Bandage Girl and trying to rescue her from her ex-boyfriend, Meat Boy. Team Meat has now issued an official response back at PETA, part of which is pretty much them saying “Thanks…”
PETA thinks Super Tofu Boy is better than Super Meat Boy
If you’ve always had a problem with helping a wad of bloody meat called Meat Boy reunite with his girlfriend, then maybe a game starring an anthropomorphic block of tofu named Tofu Boy would be more appealing. In PETA’s Super Tofu Boy, players help save Tofu Boy’s new girlfriend, Bandage Girl, from her jealous ex-boyfriend Meat Boy.
Super Tofu Boy has 10 levels, two of which are immediately available to play…
Doggone: Zynga’s Mafia Wars removes pit bulls after PETA uproar
Not even the mob wants to tangle with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Zynga’s Facebook game Mafia Wars pits opposing dons against one another with combat items ranging from bodyguards to hot coffee pots. After adding pit bulls as a combat item, Zynga was immediately besieged with complaints from PETA and its members. PETA objected to Zynga’s portrayal of pit bulls and believed the Mafia Wars appearance was reinforcing negative stereotypes about the dogs.
The Sims 3 receives PETA award for Most Animal-Friendly Game of 2009
Electronic Arts’ The Sims 3 has just won an award for depicting vegetarians and vegans in a positive light.
The award, called a Proggy, is granted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and this year The Sims 3 took the honors in the Most Animal-Friendly Game of 2009 category.
In the game, players can choose to create a vegetarian character and adopt a meat-free lifestyle. Vegetarian characters in the game have a selection of foods according to their needs. They can even enjoy snacks like tofu hot dogs or different types of salads.
If by some mistake or someone else’s mischief a vegetarian character eats meat, it will get sick. If they stick to their diets, vegetarian characters age more slowly and live longer lives.
PETA plans to make more games to promote its cause
Although PETA may have been involved in a controversial back-and-forth with Majesco over its latest Cooking Mama game, it must have found worth in the game’s inherent ability to make players aware of the joys of international cooking and cuisine.
Now PETA – which said in an interview that the point of its Cooking Mama parody title was to “make players aware of their ‘Make Your Meat’ video, a disturbing video of a corporate turkey farm – has decided to continue using the power of games to promote…
Majesco responds to PETA’s concerns over Cooking Mama
You may recall a few days ago, PETA launched a Flash game called Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals to protest Majesco’s popular Cooking Mama series and Cooking Mama World Kitchen. Well, yesterday (November 19, 2008) Majesco fired back at PETA with a press release discussing the recipes found in Cooking Mama World Kitchen, stating it does include over 25 vegetarian recipe options.
Majesco’s press release also included a quote from “Mama,” in response to PETA’s game. “Mama’s” official quote was:
“I would never put rat in my Ratatouille,” said a feisty Mama while beating some eggs. “Like any accomplished cook, I create my recipes to appeal to a broad range of tastes and preferences. My only goal is to ensure you leave the table well fed.”

PETA launches Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals
Oh dear, it seems that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has gone and protested Cooking Mama, perhaps one of the least controversial games in the world. The organization has launched a flash game titled Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals, in which players go through a series of bloody mini games that involve killing and cooking a Thanksgiving turkey.
