Help a fairy return home in Pixie

Phelios, Inc. and EMV Software, two independent game-makers, have joined forced on one game. Pixie is the resulting product. It’s a PC and Mac puzzle game where you have to help Pixie get home through 100 different levels.

The gameplay aspect sounds a bit like Qix. As Pixie, you fly around the game board, having to avoid bugs while creating vines to claim the area. If you manage to claim the majority of the area, which then turns into a field of mushrooms or flowers, you can go on to the next stage.

There are also two boss battles in Pixie, which would probably be pretty interesting to see. After all, Pixie can really only create vines. Sure, you can purchase bombs, shields or other power-ups for her, but for the most part it sounds like she’s playing defense…

Whack the Dead (not the moles) on your iPhone, Mac and PC

People familiar with mole whacking games may initially have trouble with Phelios’ Whack the Dead, since moles, zombies and people will pop up from the holes. The goal in the new iPhone, iPod Touch, Mac and Windows game is to whack zombies who pop up from the graves for points. To trip players up though, moles and normal humans may also pop up from the holes.

Depending on which version you choose, Whack the Dead may even be free. The iPhone and iPod Touch version of the game (available through the iTunes App Store) costs $2.99. The Mac and Windows versions, however, are available as free downloads through the I Play Phone Games site. Its a good marketing idea – test the game for free, and if people like it, they’ll buy it…
