Metal Gear Solid: Rising was cancelled

There’s a good reason why we hadn’t heard anything about Metal Gear Solid: Rising in so long. The game was cancelled, but the public was not informed. During the VGAs this past weekend, the game returned as Metal Gear Rising Revengeance. According to Andriasang, the story behind the death and rebirth of Rising was discussed on the the Hideraji podcast featuring Kojima Productions’ Yuji Korekado.

Anarchy Reigns is a story of war, disease and terrorism

Anarchy Reigns has been short on details since it was announced. Besides information on the characters and some brief gameplay descriptions, Sega played it close to the chest. In the latest issue of Famitsu, we’re treated with story details that are deeper than we could have imagined.

The character profiles of Anarchy Reigns

Platinum Games’ upcoming multiplayer fighting game entitled Anarchy Reigns is set for release in fall 2011 for PS3 and Xbox 360. It pits players against each other in multiplayer modes such as Tag Team and Battle Royal. Sega has been slowly releasing information about the characters that will be featured in Anarchy Reigns. Jack from MadWorld is at the forefront of this game, but there are three more characters we want to introduce you to.

Anarchy Reigns in Autumn 2011

That was fast! It was this week that Famitsu revealed Sega and Platinum Games’ Max Anarchy, and we now already have a North American and European announcement! This action game won’t be known as Max Anarchy over here though. The title will be slightly tweaked and we’ll instead be playing Anarchy Reigns in Fall 2011…

Max Anarchy features Jack from MadWorld, is an online combat game

Platinum Games and Sega are teaming up again to bring us another original IP for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Max Anarchy will be released this year (in Japan anyway) and will bring back at least one familiar face from Platinum Games’ catalog of games.

Vanquish demo available everywhere next week

Vanquish will be making an appearance on PS3s and Xbox 360s around the world next week. Every region will be getting the Vanquish Velocity Attack demo. North Americans get it first on August 31, 2010. Then Europeans get access to it on September 1, 2010. Finally, everyone in Japan and Australia will be able to download it on September 2, 2010…

Get in your spaceship and set course for Infinite Space March 16

Sega, Platinum Games and Nude Maker’s DS RPG Infinite Space will be docking at your local game store very soon. How soon? Oh, I’d say a little over two weeks. Sega’s announced that the release date is now March 16, 2010, confirming my conspiracy theory that the video game industry is trying to make all gamers go into debt in March by releasing all the good games at once.

As you probably gathered from the title, Infinite Space is about exploring outer space. There are two galaxies to journey through and missions that will require you to explore each of them. Your character is the head of a spaceship, which you get to totally customize. You even get to pick out your crew. There are two kinds of battles, real time battles between spaceships and standard RPG-style battles for when your character sneaks onto enemy spaceships to take them down from the inside. There’s even local multiplayer options, where you can challenge friends to spaceship battles using your optimized ships from your games.

Infinite Space was quite popular in Japan. As 1Up points out, it received a 34/40 in its Famitsu review. Not too bad for a DS game…

Bayonetta demo available early December 2009

The holidays are coming a little early this year for fans of brawler games.

The playable Bayonetta demo will be available for download on December 3, 2009, on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.

Bayonetta tells the story of a witch who is one of the last members of a dying order. After awaking from a 500-year nap, she finds herself being hunted down by hosts of angels. Fortunately for her, this really isn’t as much of an overkill as it sounds…

PS3 owners don’t need to wait until January 2010 for Bayonetta

Platinum Games and Sega’s Bayonetta isn’t due out in North America until January 5, 2010. Thankfully, PS3 owners don’t have to wait that long. If they have a credit card or a paypal account, they can hop online to the Japanese import video game store of their choice and order a copy of the Japanese version that comes out October 29, 2009.

Siliconera is reporting that, while the instruction manual is in Japanese, the game is completely translated. There’s even English voice acting! The PS3 version of Bayonetta received a 38 out of 40 in Famitsu, by the way, which means that a potentially great game could be waiting for you. Since the PS3 is region-free, the Japanese game will work with any PS3 console.

The only thing is, you will be paying a premium price for the right to own Bayonetta early. If you wait until January for the US release, it will cost you $59.99. Here’s what it’ll cost to import a Japanese copy right now from some of the most dependable online sites…
