Tales of the Abyss 3D is coming to North America
Hey, that Amazon leak was right! Tales of the Abyss 3D is being released in North America. Namco Bandai made the official announcement in the May 2011 edition of Nintendo Power. Granted, it was just a picture of the cast with a note saying the game would be released in America, but that’s good enough…
Joe Mauer’s baseball game cover confusing retailers, shoppers
Minnesota Twins’ catcher Joe Mauer is a very likable athlete and videogame pitchman. It’s understandable Sony would pick him as the cover athlete for its MLB:The Show baseball game two years in a row.
The decision is having an unintended side effect, though. There are multiple reports coming in of retail employees confusing MLB 11 with MLB 10. This has led to some retailers not only breaking street date but selling the brand new game at a discounted price.
Sony ordered to pay 5.1 million yen to former employee
Sony was just on the losing end of a court battle. The Intellectual Property High Court in Japan has ordered Sony to pay 5.1 million yen, or roughly $60,000 to a former employee. The plaintiff, Hidehiro Kume, felt Sony had not acknowledged his contributions when he was employed with the company. Kume is the inventor of an optical pickup that was used to read and record information on discs used in the PSOne and PS2.

PS2 turns nine, Sony says system’s “life cycle will continue”
Sony’s PlayStation 2 console may have just turned nine but for fans in the know that may seem to mean there’s only one year left to the system’s life.
So when Sony sent out a press release earlier today touting the PS2′s ninth birthday, I contacted Sony to find out whether or not this is the system’s final year.
Click though for the official word…
Sony’s big announcement is a $99 PlayStation 2
The time to pick up a PlayStation 2 is soon. Very soon. Or perhaps pick up a backup PS2. It’s up to you really. Sony’s big announcement today was that the price of the PS2 unit is going to go from $129.99 to $99. The new, lower price will go into effect on April 1, 2009. Despite the unusual choice of date, this is not some cruel and elaborate April Fool’s joke.
Joystiq followed up with Sony to ask if this would truly be a global price drop. The answer it received was a resounding not quite. PS2s price will drop to €99 throughout Europe, excluding the UK.
The PlayStation.Blog announcement boasts about the console’s long lifespan, extensive game library and 250 budget priced, “Greatest Hits” games…
Iwata believes Wii could be as popular as the Playstation 2
As the Wii continue to grow in popularity and consumers remain in shock regarding its continued purchasing power, industry pundits and gamers both wonder aloud at the levels of success Nintendo’s latest console effort will achieve.
If Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has his way, the Nintendo Wii will, according to 1UP, approach and eventually surpass the user base total of Sony’s Playstation 2, widely regarded as one of the most critically and commercially successful gaming consoles in history…
Nielsen 2008 console rankings are in, PlayStation 2 is number one
Nielsen’s latest top ten list for 2008 has revealed something that most Sony fans already know – the PlayStation 2 is still a hot commodity. It is so hot, in fact, that Nielsen is saying it was the most played console in 2008. I guess Sony really knew what it was doing when it made the PS2.
Nielsen Wire reported all the official figures from Nielson concerning the top seven consoles. The PS2 game in first in terms of use, followed by the Xbox 360, Wii, Xbox, Playstation 3 and GameCube. There was also an ambiguous “others” given for seventh place, likely refering to all older consoles that alone didn’t have enough usage minutes to achieve a ranking.
I bet Sony is disappointed to see the PS3 come in fifth place. The original Xbox even beat the PlayStation 3…

Amazon offers RPG bargain buys in honor of Cyber Monday 2008
Amazon is doing a great job of turning me into an every day lurker because it just keeps surprising me with its unbelievable deals on video games. In what I assume is an ode to Cyber Monday, Amazon is currently offering some great role-playing games (including brand new releases and pre-roders) at rock-bottom prices. This means that in addition to taking advantage of these thrifty sales tags, shoppers will also save on sales tax and receive free shipping so long as the order totals $25 or more.
It’s hard to say how long these prices will stay up, so you had better act fast and take advantage of these bargain bin finds. It looks like RPG fans will be able to stuff themselves full of something else besides just turkey this holiday season…
