How to: Make a Pokewalker fashionable
The Pokewalkers included with the DS games Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are interesting little pedometer peripherals, but also a bit awkward. Yes, they each come with little belt clips that you can attach to the device so you can easily clip it to a belt, but that can be a bit boring.
I mean, if you don’t wear belts, then you have to attach the Pokewalker a pocket, which may not be as secure. And if your pants don’t have pockets, or you’re wearing a skirt or dress, then there’s no place to clip it. At that point, you’d have to resort to tossing it into your bag, which could prove disasterous. It could emerge scuffed or with buttons inadvertantly pressed, wasting watts. Worse, it could be lost or broken.
So to help you out, Gamertell’s come up with some Pokewalker fashion dos and don’ts. You can easily see what would, or wouldn’t work if you decided to display and wear your Pokewalker…
How To: Use the Pokewalker
The Pokewalker is a handy little pedometer device included with every new copy of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. It not only serves as a means of getting Pokemon players out and walking, it also helps you train pokemon and find special items.
See, when a pokemon is transferred over, they get to explore a virtual world while you’re walking in the real one. They’ll earn experience points, find items battle wild pokemon and perhaps even battle. You don’t “have” to transfer a pokemon over. You can still earn watts for new routes and such while walking with your Pokewalker with no transferred pokemon in it, but the experience is more fun and rewarding when you do…
Gamertell Review: Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver with Pokewalker for DS
In October, 2000, Nintendo released Pokemon Gold and Silver for the Game Boy Color in North America. Now, almost 10 years later, the games have been revived and reborn as Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver for the DS. It’s a welcome arrival, especially since many Pokemon fans may have missed out, and not even been old enough, to play the original incarnations.
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver‘s story is a familiar one. A young boy or girl from a small town happens to live near a renowned pokemon professor, in this case Professor Elm, and loves pokemon. One day, he have the opportunity to assist this professor and get a pokemon of his very own. After completing a short errand for the professor, it is discovered that he has a talent for working with and training pokemon, and sets out to face all of the region’s eight gym leaders. Along the way there’ll also be bad guys to defeat (Team Rocket), a rival to trounce and finally the Elite Four to conquer.
However, HeartGold and SoulSilver are almost like two games in one. Once you’ve done all that good stuff above in the game’s main region, Johto, players will have the opportunity to return to Kanto, the region traversed in the original Pokemon games…
Preorder Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver and get a miniature Ho-Oh or Lugia
As is expected for every portable Pokemon game, Nintendo has announced that there will be preorder incentive items for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver designed to encourage people to place their orders early. Not like the game really needs it in the first place, given it’s Pokemon, one of the best loved and best selling portable games series in existence. Nonetheless, it is nice to get something for free when buying a game you already knew you were going to buy.
The preorder program starts February 1, 2010, and will give every person who takes the time to reserve a copy a statue of one of two legendary pokemon found in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. If you place your preorder for HeartGold, you get a figurine of Ho-Oh that appears to be preparing to soar up into the skies. If you prefer SoulSilver, you get the Lugia figurine pictured at the right.
Amazon isn’t mentioning the preorder offer yet, but…
US versions of Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver come with Pokewalkers
In case you were still unsure about the state of Pokewalkers, even though Amazon already leaked the news that they would be released outside of Japan, get ready to breathe a sigh of relief. Nintendo has officially announced that every Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver will come with a Pokewalker peripheral. Looks like a lot of DS owners will be getting spiffy new pedometers.
Nintendo made a special announcement just to confirm the existence and release of the peripheral, and also took the time to detail just how the Pokewalker will work. The device can connect to any DS or DSi with Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver inserted. You simply start your game with the Pokewalker nearby, then choose to transfer one of your pokemon to the Pokewalker. Any pokemon can be transfered to the device, so you don’t have to worry about picking one from a small list of compatible critters. You then walk like you normally do….
