Resident Evil: Revelations is now $10 cheaper

Resident Evil Revelations

It turns out Resident Evil: Revelations is going to be cheaper than we expected. Capcom was initially going to sell Resident Evil: Revelations for $49.99 because it came on a larger memory card (4GB) than most 3DS games. Thanks to some maneuvering on Capcom’s part, Resident Evil: Revelations will now cost $39.99.

3DS Circle Pad Pro is a GameStop exclusive

We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw Nintendo’s answer to adding a second analog stick to the 3DS. The Circle Pad Pro lacks elegance and makes it impossible to carry the 3DS in your pocket. We suppose sacrifices have to be made if we want to experience games such as Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater the way they were meant to be played. Nintendo will allow us to do just that at a fairly low price.

Netflix and video games: What happened?

The Q&A session between Netflix and its investors recently wrapped up today. During the event, in which we attended virtually through the power of the internet, Netflix didn’t say a word about a video game rental service. Just last month, game rentals were one of the high points Netflix offered when it was promoting Qwikster. Ever since the Qwikster plans were cancelled, Netflix has remained mostly mum on game rentals, only stopping the silence to state it isn’t sure if games will be offered. After reading and hearing Netflix’s third quarter financial results and its letter to investors, I think I have a good idea why games may be off the table for the foreseeable future.

PSPgo is $200 again

Sony’s made a couple of big PSP announcements in the last few weeks. First, it dropped the price of a standard PSP-3000 to $129.99 and made all of those nice PSP Entertainment Pack bundles $159.99. Then, it made the less popular PSPgo $149.99. Well, I hope you grabbed your PSPgo last week from Sony when the discount was first announced, because it’s back up to $199.99 now…

Analyst estimates NGP price to be no more than $349

The NGP is a beast of a machine. Did you see the specs? This thing is rocking a quad core processor, a five inch screen and connectivity options that will make sure you’re always connected to the PlayStation Network. The question on everyone’s mind deals with price. Sony is not giving exact details about that, but the president of Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios Shu Yoshida told Game Informer it wouldn’t cost $599 like the PS3 did at launch. EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich had a less humorous approximation.

THQ will release MX vs. ATV: Alive for $39.99

THQ announced its intentions to experiment with the pricing structure of its upcoming title, MX vs. ATV: Alive, way back in November. It hopes that by releasing the game at a lower price, consumers will spend even more money on downloadable content. It’s a gamble, but it’s definitely good news to anyone who is tired of paying $60 for a new game. THQ revealed the new price at its event in New York today (January 12, 2011) along with potential plans to expand this idea into another franchise.

THQ talks Saint’s Row movie, lower game prices

Transmedia is THQ’s favorite world these days. THQ has adapted this strategy to make its games appeal to a broader audience. For example, a novel will accompany the release of Homefront, WWE games are appearing at live events and WWE television programs and movies are being made based on Red Faction and Saint’s Row. Some of these products come at no cost to THQ, so it can put the money it saves into new endeavors.

Why Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Live

November marks the first month Microsoft will charge extra for an Xbox Live Gold subscription. The yearly cost of the service will be $59.99, 6 months costs $24.99 and service for three months is $9.99. The longer the subscription, the higher the price rose. Microsoft changed the prices after they had remained the same for years. An explanation is in order and Microsoft has one.

3DS release date moved due to supply issues

There was a time when seeing a Wii in stores was almost mythical. The supply for the console came nowhere near the consumer demand for it. Some say it was intentional and I wouldn’t be surprised it that were true. But Nintendo doesn’t want that to happen again with the 3DS. Following yesterday’s release date and pricing announcement comes news that the 3DS was supposed to launch this year.

DSi and DSi XL $20 cheaper soon

If you’re in the market for a DSi or DSi XL, wait. That’s right, you really should be patient and wait. At least until September 12, 2010. Nintendo’s just announced $20 price drops on both units. The discount doesn’t take effect for about three weeks though, on September 12.
