A quick primer for new DC Universe Online free-to-play users
Yesterday, Sony Online Entertainment conducted a live stream to discuss details about DC Universe Online going free-to-play. Due to audio dropouts in the stream, we weren’t able to definitively tell you about the various pricing details for things such as character slots and auction slots. SOE managed to get the broadcast on YouTube earlier today, and we’ve compiled a list of important details for those of you who will be joining DCUO for the first time.
THQ experimenting with lower game prices
THQ has been implementing new ways to market its games and maximize profit. It has entered into a transmedia agreement with the SyFy channel to produce a television series based on the Red Faction franchise. The show will air around the time Red Faction Armageddon releases in 2011. In addition to cross promotions such as this, THQ will experiment with lowering the retail price of one of its franchises in an effort to bring in more revenue through downloadable content.
Namco-Bandai calls for cheaper games
The videogame industry was shocked when sales were much lower than expected for April 2010. We could blame low sales on the weak economy here in the US or we could examine another potentially large problem. Namco-Bandai’s Partners’ vice president Olivier Comte feels the industry needs another plan to gain revenue. One such plan is to lower the cost for brand new games.
Happy Earth Day: Most games now cost less than a tank of gas
It’s Earth Day 2008 (April 22, 2008) and the average price of gas around my town (near Cincinnati, Ohio) has finally reached $3.60 per gallon. That means a 14-gallon fill-up now costs $50.40. Yep, the price of the average console videogame.
Which will you try to spend less on, games or gas? Will gamers across the country buy one less game a year to have enough money to drive to work one extra week?

Capcom polls gamers for Bionic Commando Rearmed price
Capcom has put up a poll Tuesday (February 19, 2008) on their official North American Bionic Commando site that anyone faintly interested in downloading Bionic Commando Rearmed, the souped-up remake of the classic NES title headed for the XBox 360, Playstation3 and PC, should probably vote in: whether to price the game at $10 or $15.
