Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have announced the home video release details for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton.

It will be available September 14, 2010, on DVD (retail price of $29.99), Blu-ray ($39.99) and as a digital download (undisclosed). There will also be a three-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack ($44.99) that includes…

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time most profitable game-based movie ever

Admittedly, it is not saying a lot to make the most money in a genre that includes Super Mario Bros., Dead or Alive and no less than 10 Uwe Boll flicks.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time , however, is now the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation ever.

Box Office Mojo reports that The Sands of Time has hauled in more than $310 million since its release. Most of that has come from international audiences, as it took in only about $80 million domestically.

Gamertell Review: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie review

Oh, movie companies. You take the games we love and make them into movies it’s hard to love. And so, now, you’ve taken the acrobatic platformer Prince of Persia and made it into a big-screen treatment feature.

We want to love it.

Really we do.

But, yet again, you just didn’t make it very easy on us. Click through to find out why…

Ten things to do while watching Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is coming out this Friday May 28, 2010, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the titular prince, Gemma Arterton as the Princess, and Sir Ben Kingsley as the vizier. I’m sure that you all have already pre-purchased your tickets and planning to line up at the crack of dawn on Friday to catch this film. After all, we all know that many video games have been re-imagined as major feature films with great success right? Right? I mean, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was pure box office gold.

Ubisoft announces Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

It could be one and done for the new game hero introduced in the 2008 Prince of Persia. Ubisoft has announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

The game is slated for a May 2010 release to coincide with the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie.

Opinion: Prince of Persia trailer wasn’t terrible after all

Video game movies usually tend to be well, awful. (Super Mario Bros or Dead or Alive, anyone?)

So it was with much skepticism that I’ve been following news regarding a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie.

After having seen the first trailer, I am convinced this film will be worth seeing. One of the first obstacles to a decent movie, game based or otherwise is the budget. With Walt Disney Studios considerable resources behind the production, there are no problems there, putting Jerry Bruckheimer and an all-star cast in place. The quality of the special effects show that no money is no object.

See Jake Gyllenhaal run, backflip and spin kick as the Prince of Persia

There’s been a bit of controversy about Jake Gyllenhaal playing The Prince of Persia in the upcoming movie, so the above pic from Entertainment Weekly may or may not sway your opinion.

Nonetheless, Walt Disney is banking that the combination of Gyllenhaal, director Jerry Bruckheimer and a waiting audience of franchise fans will make this one of the rare video game films worth watching.

Bruckheimer promises action, romance in Prince of Persia movie

When I first heard Hollywood was contemplating a Prince of Persia movie, I had to stifle back some laughter. But, with Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbeanm CSI) on board, the idea isn’t as funny as I first thoguht.

In an interview withLatino Review, Bruckheimer talked about a video game-based movie with a chance of being really good.

Bruckheimer told the film site that, as far as scope, Prince of Persia is “enormous” and will be a big romantic adventure with lots of…

First images of Jake Gyllenhaal as Prince of Persia

You may recall the third part of our Prince of Persia series, where we discussed the up-and-coming movie. Well, it appears pop gossip site JustJared has posted pictures of Jake Gyllenhaal as the Prince.

It looks like Gyllenhaal is on his way to the first take, as he is more shirtless than Matthew McConaughey on a normal day. It would appear that Jake has gotten into great shape for the role, so this would be a good time to lay off (or on?) the Brokeback Mountain jokes…

Prince of Persia Chronicles Part 3: Modern gen game, silver screen star

Now that we’ve looked at the games that have made the Prince of Persia series so popular, it is time to take a look at where the franchise is heading.

Prince of Persia: The Next Generation

As the franchise moves forward, the Prince is set for yet another transformation. After the Sands of Time trilogy came to a close, Ubisoft decided that the series needed a new direction. And while we still don’t know very much about the upcoming Prince of Persia title for…
