Prince of Persia: Warrior Within HD looks spiffy today on PSN

The next Prince of Persia HD release is out today (December 14, 2010). After the PlayStation Store updates, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within HD will be waiting for you for $14.99. As that little HD in the title implies, it’ll be in HD. Not only that, but you can also see it in stereoscopic 3D. Flashy…

Ubisoft was once developing a modern day Prince of Persia

Before the Prince was voiced by Nolan North and given a Gyllenhaal makeover, Ubisoft had radical plans in store for the Prince of Persia franchise. The prince was to leave behind ancient ruins and jump into into a modern day setting. Before you throw your arms up in disgust, you should know that Ubisoft canceled those plans years ago.

Alternate Disc-Tractions: Prince of Persia The Sands of Time Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Download review

Based on the Prince of Persia video game series, the Prince of Persia The Sands of Time focuses on acrobatic Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal), the adopted “Prince” who is part of an invasion on a holy city when he happens to acquire a magical dagger, the Dagger of Time. It is a sacred object that can rewind time and is, o course, protected by sexy princess Tamania (Gemma Arterton) who spends much of the movie using trickery and sexual guile to otherwise reclaim the dagger.

The film certainly has respectable scope and vision and some decent acting yet sometimes becomes a bit awkward in terms of dialog and disjointed plot elements…

Hallmark explains why there isn’t a video game Christmas ornament this year (update)

Surprised at the lack of a video game ornament this year compared to the previous four years, I reached out to Hallmark for an explanation.

Considering that Hallmark has released at least one video game (or arcade game) themed ornament the past four years, it seemed out of place to me to not create and sell one for 2010.

Click through the response Gamertell received from Hallmark’s Public Relations department…

Hallmark’s Christmas 2010 Prince of Persia, Tron ornaments

This year, Hallmark’s main video game themed ornament is Prince Dastan from Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Measuring 4 in. tall and retailing for $14.95 (ornament # QXD2152), it features the likeness of a leaping Jake Gyllenhaal as “The Prince.” The film is also being released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download September 14, 2010.

The other ornament, which I have yet to see in a store, is the Tron Lightcycle ornament (#QXD1153), also based on a upcoming Disney film (Tron: Legacy, December 17, 2010). This one is priced $16.95, is 4.5 in. wide and lights up (so it requires batteries, which are often included in Hallmark’s fancier ornaments). This definitely looks to be the more impressive of this year’s two game-related ornaments.

Prince of Persia movie coming to home video September 14, 2010

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have announced the home video release details for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton.

It will be available September 14, 2010, on DVD (retail price of $29.99), Blu-ray ($39.99) and as a digital download (undisclosed). There will also be a three-disc Blu-ray Combo Pack ($44.99) that includes…

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time most profitable game-based movie ever

Admittedly, it is not saying a lot to make the most money in a genre that includes Super Mario Bros., Dead or Alive and no less than 10 Uwe Boll flicks.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time , however, is now the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation ever.

Box Office Mojo reports that The Sands of Time has hauled in more than $310 million since its release. Most of that has come from international audiences, as it took in only about $80 million domestically.

Gamertell Review: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie review

Oh, movie companies. You take the games we love and make them into movies it’s hard to love. And so, now, you’ve taken the acrobatic platformer Prince of Persia and made it into a big-screen treatment feature.

We want to love it.

Really we do.

But, yet again, you just didn’t make it very easy on us. Click through to find out why…

Bullet-Point Preview: Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie

Last night I saw an advanced screening of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and it was… as usual I’m not allowed to actually review it until it hits theaters on May 28, 2010.

So, instead, here’s a slightly enigmatic, purposefully partially vague yet point-on bullet-point preview of Sands of Time directed by Mike Newell and starring Jake Gyllenhaal (as Dastan, aka The Prince), Gemma Arterton (Tamina, aka The Princess), Ben Kingsley (Nizam) and Alfred Molina (Sheik Amar)…

Ten things to do while watching Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is coming out this Friday May 28, 2010, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the titular prince, Gemma Arterton as the Princess, and Sir Ben Kingsley as the vizier. I’m sure that you all have already pre-purchased your tickets and planning to line up at the crack of dawn on Friday to catch this film. After all, we all know that many video games have been re-imagined as major feature films with great success right? Right? I mean, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was pure box office gold.
