Gamertell Review: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie review

Oh, movie companies. You take the games we love and make them into movies it’s hard to love. And so, now, you’ve taken the acrobatic platformer Prince of Persia and made it into a big-screen treatment feature.

We want to love it.

Ubisoft announces Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

It could be one and done for the new game hero introduced in the 2008 Prince of Persia. Ubisoft has announced Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.

The game is slated for a May 2010 release to coincide with the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie.

Opinion: Prince of Persia trailer wasn’t terrible after all

Video game movies usually tend to be well, awful. (Super Mario Bros or Dead or Alive, anyone?)

So it was with much skepticism that I’ve been following news regarding a Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie.

After having seen the first trailer, I am convinced this film will be worth seeing. One of the first obstacles to a decent movie, game based or otherwise is the budget. With Walt Disney Studios considerable resources behind the production, there are no problems there, putting Jerry Bruckheimer and an all-star cast in place. The quality of the special effects show that no money is no object.

See Jake Gyllenhaal run, backflip and spin kick as the Prince of Persia

There’s been a bit of controversy about Jake Gyllenhaal playing The Prince of Persia in the upcoming movie, so the above pic from Entertainment Weekly may or may not sway your opinion.

Nonetheless, Walt Disney is banking that the combination of Gyllenhaal, director Jerry Bruckheimer and a waiting audience of franchise fans will make this one of the rare video game films worth watching.
