Brash Entertainment closes down

Despite a reported $400 million in pledged financing and some industry veterans at the helm, Brash Entertainment is no more.

Brash closed down on Friday (November 14, 2008) just 18 months after it promised sweeping changes in the way movie-based games are done. The company’s strategy hinged heavily on converting TV and movie licenses into games. GameStop’s recent Christmas shopping hint book [Gamestop] features Brash’s The Tale of Despereaux, based on an upcoming children’s film.

We know that game tie-ins to a movie usually end in utter disaster. Ironically enough those games tend to sell very well despite their quality. Brash Entertainment knows that which is why they’ve published movie games including Jumper: Griffin’s Story, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Space Chimps. Brash’s latest endeavor moves beyond cinema adaptations and into television with a game based on the television show Prison Break which is scheduled for release in February 2009 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Vivendi Mobile Games introduces games for the first half of 2008

A recent press release from Vivendi Games Mobile revealed all of the company’s planned cell phone titles for the first half of 2008. A wide variety of genres and licenses can be expected in the coming year, such as The Bourne Conspiracy, Celebrity Hangman, Crash Nitro Kart 2, Prison Break, Pub Darts 180 and Wordox: Word Snatcher. The first title to hit cell phones will be a mobile version of The Spiderwick Chronicles, which should be available through providers before the end of February, 2008.
