PS3 firmware v3.65 is live and optional
Sony held its E3 2011 press conference. I would say it was the best press conference out of the big three so far. Of course Nintendo is going to show its hand later today as it tries to top Sony. As we wait for that to happen, we can continue to ride the Sony wave over to our PS3s and download the latest firmware update. It’s cool if you don’t want to download it. Unlike most firmware updates, this one is completely optional.
PS3 to be fully compatible with minis on December 17, 2009
PlayStation 3 firmware 3.15 was released December 9, 2009, but if you tried to play some of your PSP minis games on the system after downloading it, you probably were a bit disheartened. The optional firmware 3.15 update was promised to provide minis compatibility, but apparently full compatibility isn’t in the cards just yet. Instead, only a portion of the 13 currently available minis games are playable on the system. PSN Stores states that the rest of the minis should be compatible and ready to play on December 17, 2009, when the PlayStation Store updates.
So what games are? PSN Stores’s Chris K. put together a region-specific list based on minis he and commenters had tested. If you’re in the US, you can enjoy the minis Kahoots, Stand O’Food and Zombie Tycoon. People in Europe can play Breakquest, Echoes and Stand O’Food. Finally, those residing in Australia can only enjoy Blast Off and Echoes.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise though. We already knew that some of the minis weren’t going to immediately work on the PS3 thanks from Sony’s firmware 3.15 announcement…
PS3 firmware 3.01 lets you play Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune again
Today’s a good day for PS3 owners. Sony has kind-of responded to the multiple complaints about PS3 firmware 3.0 with firmware 3.01. The PlayStation.Blog announced the new firmware’s debut today. As usual, what’s been changed hasn’t been really announced. The only change noted is improved system stability for certain games.
Reportedly, the 3.01 fix does alleviate some of the problems caused by firmware 3.0. Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune froze on PS3s running 3.0, and quite a few users reported freezing issues with Batman: Arkham Asylum. 3.01 allows users to play both of those games again. Eric Lempel, PlayStation Network Operations Director, specifically stated in a reply on the PlayStation.Blog entry that Uncharted now works.
However, if you’re one of the people who’s controllers just stopped working after 3.0, 3.01 isn’t going to help you any…
