Sony is not planning a PlayStation 4 at the moment

It has been a little over four years since the PS3 was released. Previous industry trends indicate the PS3 is almost half way through its life cycle. That isn’t the case with today’s high powered consoles. For the first time ever, different kinds of software can be pushed to consoles that help to extend their shelf life. Brand new methods of game control such as PlayStation Move, and network integration with other devices also help the console to improve as it gets older. For those reasons and more, Sony is not considering a PlayStation 4.

Sony hopes to use 3D gaming, cross-platform content and subscriptions to increase profits

Sony recently began rebranding the PS3 as the console that “does everything” in an effort to drive up sales following the release of the PS3 Slim.

While not a purely true statement, Sony is looking to bring new gaming experiences to the PS3 before any other console. According to the Associated Press Sony demonstrated a multi-tier strategy during a conference with investors from its headquarters in Tokyo Thursday (November 19, 2009) that outlined its plans to deliver 3D gaming to all PS3 consoles.

Screw the PS4 rumors: PS3 will keep us busy for years

I just bought a PlayStation 3 console when I read the rumors of a PlayStation 4 coming out soon and all the mind blowing possibilities of the theoretically new console. I could barely afford the PS3 much less worry about what its going to cost for a PS4. But, based on what Paul Holman (Sony Vice President of Technology) told TechEBlog in 2006, the PS4 will not be out until at least 2010…
