Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV arriving on PSN September 20

Time to savor and remember the classics as two of Square Enix’s best games are heading to the North American PlayStation Store. Well, technically they’re two of Square’s best games, but let’s not quibble. Instead, let’s just be happy that we’ll be able to play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV on our PS3s and PSPs since both games are becoming PSone Classics September 20, 2011….

Xperia Play’s PSOne emulator hacked, now can play PSOne ISOs

Sony is not going to be happy today. See, somebody’s just figured out a way to crack open its latest baby, the Xperia Play. The Xperia Play is a smartphone with the ability to play original PlayStation games on it, and until now people had to make do with the PSOne games Sony was releasing via the PlayStation Suite. I say until now, because an Android developer named Yifan Lu found a way to get the phone’s included emulator to recognize game files not acquired through Sony.

What makes Yifan Lu’s work special is that it’s actually based entirely on the PlayStation emulator Sony has built into the Xperia Play…

Wow! This is obviously a good year for classic Square games. First, we get Xenogears on the PSN on February 22, 2011. Now, a week later, Vagrant Story will be added to the PlayStation Store on March 1, 2011. Not too bad…

Sony explains the process behind emulating PSone games

Anyone who owns a PS3 and is remotely interested in the lineup of PSOne classics has at least one game they wish were available digitally. For me, it’s Brave Fencer Mushashi. On the surface, it seems like Sony only has to pick and choose which PSone games it wants to put on PSN. In reality, that process isn’t as simple as that. There are many steps to preparing a PSone game for digital release.

PlayStation Meeting 2011 reveals NGP, PlayStation Suite

Well, the Sony PlayStation Meeting 2011 has just finished in Japan and we know now all the latest juicy tidbits about the newest member of the PlayStation family, the PSP2. Which is apparently now called the NGP. Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai took the stage to start off the event, which didn’t just focus on the new handheld. First, Hirai talked about the PlayStation Suite…

Sony ordered to pay 5.1 million yen to former employee

Sony was just on the losing end of a court battle. The Intellectual Property High Court in Japan has ordered Sony to pay 5.1 million yen, or roughly $60,000 to a former employee. The plaintiff, Hidehiro Kume, felt Sony had not acknowledged his contributions when he was employed with the company. Kume is the inventor of an optical pickup that was used to read and record information on discs used in the PSOne and PS2.
