PSP firmware 6.00 upgrade offers lackluster additions

I’ve had my PSP almost a year now and I still can’t adjust to how often new firmware is released for the PSP. Case in point, firmware version 6.00 is officially go for Sony’s handheld system. The PlayStation.Blog announced the update’s forthcoming debut yesterday (September 9, 2009), and it’s now available today. Though I suppose it has been quite a while since a new update, since firmware 5.55 was released a month or so ago on the SMT: Persona, Tales of VS. and G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra UMDs.

The changes are fairly unassuming. You have new color options under Theme Settings, for those people who go with the colored themes instead of ones with wallpapers and custom icons. You can sort your downloaded games into folders, the internet browser’s had a security patch applied and Network Update is now known as System Update.

PSP firmware 5.50 to make users more organized and secure

Do you feel safe when you use your PSP? No, I’m not talking about possibly getting burned by batteries, I’m talking about internet security. Whether you thought about it or not, Sony has, and the company has announced that the next incarnation of PSP firmware will include Trend Micro Web Security and Kids’ Safety service trials.

The PlayStation.Blog’s been updated with a note concerning PSP firmware 5.50. So far, all the announcements concerning the update seem to discuss improvements to two aspects of the PSP, data management and internet add-ons. If you aren’t big on storing additional media on your system or using it to browse the internet, 5.50 may not offer you much…

Wondering what’s changed in PSP 5.05 firmware

The latest PSP firmware is out! Don’t go running to perform an update though. Unless you’re willing to pay for an Asian or Japanese copy of one of the three versions of Idolm@ster SP, you won’t be able to get your hands on 5.05. The latest update from Sony is only available on the Idolm@ster SP: Perfect Sun, Missing Moon and Wandering Star UMDs.

There’s no reason to get upset. Since it is only on UMDs for one specific game, the firmware obviously only applies to Namco Bandai’s Idolm@ster SP games. There’s no changelog, so we can’t be exactly sure what 5.05 does differently than 5.00. The best we can do is wonder and hazard some guesses…
