Sony is holding its first PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards
The PlayStation Network has given its humble users the power to decide which games were the best of 2010. Are we a little too far into 2011 to pick out the best games of 2010? I certainly think so, but you can’t argue with the benefits we’ll receive from picking winners. Voting for the PlayStation Network Gamers’ Choice Awards will start on February 22 and will last until March 1.
PSN holding a holiday sale from November 23-29
The PlayStation Network is getting in on all the holiday sales buzz. Starting today and ending on November 29, PSN is holding a “Stock Up for Winter” sale. The sales cover downloadable PSN, PSP and PSP minis. Most games have been discounted by 50%.
Mediatonic returns to PSP minis with WTF!?
The creators of Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess is coming back for round two on the PlayStation Network. Mediatonic announced its new game today (August 4, 2010) called Who’s That Flying!? a.k.a. WTF!? The game will be introduced as a PSP mini, but it will also be playable straight from the PS3. A release date or price has not been announced but Mediatonic expects it to cost $4.99.
Angry Birds dive bombing on PSP, PS3 and DS
If you’re not sure what Angry Birds is, allow me to enlighten you. The premise behind the game is a silly one. Evil pigs have stolen the eggs of many birds and they must pay for their crimes. Your weapons are different types of birds with special abilities. For example, the red bird is heavy enough to smash through obstacles and blue birds can split itself in three for a tri-attack. Each level gives you a certain amount of pigs to defeat with a set number of birds.
E3 2010: Young Thor assaults PSP Minis
Young Thor was developed by Frima Studio, the same developers who created Zombie Tycoon for PSP Minis last year. Young Thor was developed specifically for PSP Minis. It will be playable on PSP and PS3. It features a little Thor who must slay countless monsters in order to find out what happened to the three Norns. The story is based on Norse mythology. It’s as convoluted as Greek mythology, but if God of War has taught us anything it’s that mythology can spawn a very compelling storyline in games.
Rule the undead in Zombie Tycoon for PSP
Everyone is into killing zombies these days.
A couple games, including Left 4 Dead 2 and Borderlands, will feed our zombie addiction over the next several months. Handheld zombie games, however, seem to be few and far between. Who wouldn’t want to kill zombies on the go or how about controlling them?
This is what Zombie Tycoon is all about. Zombie Tycoon has been released today (October 29, 2009) on the PlayStation Store for $7.99 and is the latest game to grace the PSP Minis library.
ESRB partly responsible for big PSP Minis prices
PSP Minis was a new idea that came out alongside the PSPgo. The concept behind Minis was to provide quick pick-up-and-go games for under $9.99. The success of the games that are available on the iTunes App Store is obviously the influence behind Sony’s new line of Minis. The problem with comparing Minis to games on the App Store boils down to the price for the games. Even though a game such as Fieldrunners can be purchased for $2.99 on the App Store, the price is doubled on the PlayStation Network.
Sony’s director of PlayStation Network operations Eric Lempel recently spoke to Joystiq and revealed that Sony does not set the price for PSP Minis. Pricing is instead left to the developers.
