Twisted Pixel joins Microsoft Studios

‘Splosion Man and The Gunstringer, has been acquired by Microsoft. Any hopes of a multi-platform Twisted Pixel game have officially been squashed, but the studio has been creating Xbox 360-exclusive console games for a while now. Twisted Pixel will remained stationed in Austin, Texas and will be able to keep their unique identity as well.

PopCap Games will soon belong to Electronic Arts

This one of those stories that started as a rumor, got debunked and later turned out to be true. The mystery buyer of PopCap games has turned out to be Electronic Arts. Not all aspects of the original story were true. It was estimated that PopCap’s buyer was paying over $1 billion for the company. EA is only spending $750 million.

PopCap Games, the maker of some of the most time consuming games we’ve ever seen, may be up for sale. According to TechCrunch, multiple sources have reported PopCap’s asking price is over $1 billion. PopCap Games is responsible for hits such as Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, Bejeweled and plenty more. It recently created a 4th & Battery, a studio dedicated to developing free games just for fun.

Sony purchases LittleBigPlanet developer

LittleBigPlanet was one of the PS3′s biggest titles of 2008 and has won dozens of awards since. To date, Media Molecule continues to support LittleBigPlanet through downloadable costumes and themed level packs. The community also remains to be active by creating over two million levels since LBP‘s release.

Disney gets its large white mitts on Wideload Games

And you thought Disney was done when it started the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Marvel.

Less than a week after that announcement, Disney then announced that it has agreed to purchase Wideload Games, makers of Stubbs the Zombie, Hail to the Chimp and Texas Cheat’ Em.

1UP officially bought by UGO, layoffs announced

We are sorry to interrupt (or at least emotionally hijack) CES coverage but our earlier report about UGO acquiring the 1UP network has been officially confirmed.

Properties sold include: 1UP.com, Mycheats.com, Gametab.com and GameVideos.com. Filefront will reportedly become part of the PCMag Digital Network.

Bloomberg News is reporting that Dubai International Capital has purchased an undisclosed yet “substantial” stake in Sony. Take Two Interactive announced that it has sold Joytech to rival manufacturer Mad Catz, including all assets and employees. A subsidiary of Take Two, Joytech manufactures state-of-the-art videogames, audio visual accessories and offers them to the community at competitive prices.
