Good Old Games now sells the Heavy Rain precursor Indigo Prophecy
Even though Heavy Rain did well, ridiculously well, Quantic Dream’s prior experience with a multifaceted adventure game wasn’t as successful. I mean, Fahrenheit, aka Indigo Prophecy, did have its fans, but for the most part it was more of a way for Quantic Dreams to get its act together and figure out what needed to be done to create a project like Heavy Rain. So a lot of people probably missed it the first time around. Which makes it good that Good Old Games.com has decided to give people a second shot at experiencing it.
Since it was released in North America as Indigo Prophecy, we’ll just call it that for the rest of this update…
Heavy Rain developer blames $13 million lost on used games sales
Used game sales have had such an effect on publishers, a few of them decided to make up for lost revenue by charging for multiplayer. EA, Warner Bros., Ubisoft and Sony are some of the companies that charge an extra $10 for a pass to access multiplayer content from used games. New games come with an activation code that unlocks multiplayer features at no additional charge. Used game sales also affect developers too. Quantic Dream for example lost upwards to $13 million due to used sales of Heavy Rain according to the company’s founder Guillaume de Fondaumiere.
Quantic Dream now casting role for 10-13 year old girl
Quantic Dream, the developers of Heavy Rain, have started work on its latest videogame project. Though no details have surfaced yet, we at least know it will involve motion capture. Quantic Dream is holding a casting call for talent in Paris for a child actress.
Heavy Rain getting Move support September 22
PlayStation Move doesn’t officially release until this Friday (September 17, 2010), but some retailers are selling the hardware and software early. Regardless of when you actually get your hands on Move, you won’t be able to use it to play Heavy Rain until a almost a week later.
PS Move halted Heavy Rain DLC development
Cage said Sony insisted Quantic Dream focus on implementing PlayStation Move controls into Heavy Rain instead on working on the DLC. Cage felt spending more time with Heavy Rain could cause delays on other projects the team is working on. There is a possibility that the remaining two episodes of Heavy Rain Chronicles may not ever see the light of day.
Utterly confusing Heavy Rain moments
I recently played through Heavy Rain for the first time. I enjoyed it so much, I managed to get through it in less than one day. But there are some instances while playing where I found myself thinking,” How is that possible?” Even though Heavy Rain has a great story and really does feel like an interactive movie in hindsight, it has some large plot holes.
Heavy Rain plagued by problems
Even though a 230mb patch was available on day one, Heavy Rain is giving many players heavy hearts. There are problem. And not just slightly annoying problems that you could probably live with, like the glitch where the audio and video don’t match up. Many people are experiencing game-ending freezes and corrupted game saves. I know I’d be heart broken if I played a game for three hours, then discovered it didn’t save properly and I’d have to go back to a save point I made during the first hour of play.
Sony is aware of the issues that many Heavy Rain players are facing, so at least that’s something. There hasn’t been another patch announcement yet, or really any kind of news as to how Quantic Dream and Sony are going to make things all better…
Qore predicts Heavy Rain on February 16, 2010, Sony says not until February 23, 2010 (updated)
If you own a PS3 and you’re eagerly anticipating Sony’s Heavy Rain, then check out Qore when you get home. It’s got a nice little blurb in it about Heavy Rain, and that happened to leak a possible release date. According to Qore, the game will be released February 16, 2010.
However, Sony has just announced via the PlayStation.Blog that the Qore release date is off by a few days, and Heavy Rain will be out February 23, 2010. GameStop was backing up Qore, as its Heavy Rain listing showed a February 16, 2010 release date as of 11:02am CST on January 8, 2010. That’ll probably be changing to the correct date pretty soon.
If this is the first you’re hearing about Heavy Rain, here’s why there’s a lot of hype surrounding it…
CES 2010: Sony rep says Heavy Rain “blows Uncharted 2 away” (with exclusive video)
One Sony representative instructing the demo for Heavy Rain gave a pretty bold statement that challenges Uncharted 2 for best looking game of all time.
What the developers have to say about Heavy Rain
Heavy Rain is an upcoming action adventure game for the PS3 that plays very much like an interactive film. It is developed by Quantic Dream, the minds behind the 2005 game Indigo Prophecy.
Heavy Rain is looking to be massive with more than 2,000 pages of script. It doesn’t have a release date yet but it will be present at E3 2009. It will almost certainly be rated Mature because the developers have confirmed nudity, sex and a serial killer in the game.
