Game Politics’ top ten video game scandals of all time
Game Politics has posted a list of gaming’s 10 biggest scandals including biggies like the recent Manhunt 2 AO rating and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ hot coffee mod. The list, which went up Monday (July 16, 2007) is definitely geared towards the modern era – you’ll find nothing pre-1993 (E.T., anyone? Sony apologizes to the Church of England
Remember when the Church of England demanded Sony take references to Manchester Cathedral out of their flagship PS3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man?
Sony released a statement on Friday, July 6, 2007 apologizing for causing offense by including the Cathedral in the game and also promising never to use the cathedral in another Sony game. Sony has also announced they will have no further comment on the matter and Manchester Cathedral has released a “digital code of conduct” for game developers…
Church of England to meet with Sony
Sony has made an apology to the Dean of Rochester Cathedral over its use of the cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man for the PS3. The President of Sony Computer Entertainment, Europe, sent a letter on Friday (June 15, 2007) restating that Resistance is a work of fiction and locating the cathedral in the story:[quote]Early in the time line of the story, Manchester Cathedral is utilised as a field hospital to tend to the human casualties of the war. When the story line reaches chapter 8, the Cathedral is empty and abandoned, no longer used as a place of worship and the sequences that take place inside are to defend the building from the aliens.[/quote]
