SNK Playmore USA releases 8 NEO-GEO games via the Playstation Store

NEO-GEO was a force to be reckoned with when it came out back in the ’80s. OK, so maybe that’s not entirely true but it still had some awesome games that are making a comeback to your PSP and PS3 starting.

Starting July 19, 2011, SNK Playmore USA has re-released eight NEO-GEO titles to the Playstation store in North America for your downloading pleasure. The titles will be released as Playstation Minis and will be featured in both the “New Releases” category and the “SNK NEOGEO” Featured Publishers page.

Gamertell Review: Super Mario All-Stars for Wii

Nothing beats the original adventures of the brothers Mario. Whether you are ducking down pipes, saving princesses, or jumping on strange mushroom or reptilian creatures, the originals were the best.

Super Mario Bros. All Stars 25th Anniversary Edition allows you to relive the first three Mario games, plus an extra Lost Levels game on your Wii system.

Gamertell Interview: Yuking it up with RiffTrax trio Nelson, Murphy and Corbett

You know those jerks who talk over movies in the theater and you want to pelt them in the head with a frozen beverage? Well, Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame have made a career doing this and have zero head concussions (they’ll admit to).

The boys started a group known as RiffTrax where they take modern movies including Jurassic Park, Twilight and a google of others, making jokes – or “riffs” – during the movie. RiffTrax will be doing a live show Aug 19, 2010, featuring the 1938 cult classic, educational anti-marihuana film Reefer Madness.

Gamertell recently spoke with the three masterminds behind RiffTrax who had a lot to saw about their craft…

Play all your old games in one console with the RetroN 3

Hyperkin is trying to recreate the old school gaming experience and that’s what with its new RetroN 3 console.

The system features three cartridge slots on the top and it works with original NES, the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games. It has six controller ports, two for each of the original controllers and it comes with two wireless controllers of its own. And if all this old school goodness isn’t enough for you, then there’s the price. The RetroN 3 will sell for $69.99 US.

2K Marin re-imagining X-COM franchise

If you have been dying to get your hands on yet another game from an earlier era brought forth to the forefront of the current generation, 2K Marin has just the game for you: X-COM.

If Bethesda’s version of Fallout has taught this industry anything, it’s that isometric games being brought to the first-person viewpoint are automatic gold.

That’s what we learned from that, right?

A few games we want to see remade in HD

Nostalgia can go a long way these days. We would gladly hand over money to play the same game we enjoyed more than ten years ago if we don’t own a physical copy. Some companies have taken it a step further and have or will remake games with a glossy coat of HD graphics built in such as Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 and Turtles in Time.

There are still a few games that we will stumble over ourselves to buy if they were touched up and distributed over Xbox Live, PSN or WiiWare and we thought we’d share them with you today…

About Friggin Time: Komodo Adapter will let you use old controllers with your Wii (updated)

A press release sent by Innex today (May 14, 2009) announced the upcoming release of the Komodo Adapter, a “3-in-1 Virtual Retro Adaptor that allows gamers to connect NES, SNES, and N64 controllers directly to the Nintendo Wii video game console.”

Now you can put your old controllers back in action and get that truly old school retro feel when you play those old system games on your current gen console. Think of it as a cord to the past or, more current, a device that lets you reuse old tech. Me likey.

The adapter will utilizes the…

Wii Virtual Console update for April 21-27, 2008

We’re a little slow on the uptake this week, but thankfully, it looks like the Virtual Console isn’t. Classic brawler/RPG River City Ransom and genesis RPG Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom round out an uncharacteristically high-quality update. Seriously, River City Ransom is one of the coolest, most bad-ass NES games ever, and I encourage all comers to give it a shot.

All VC titles are available on the Wii Shop channel, with a fresh batch arriving every Monday at 9 AM Pacific time. Wii points can be purchased at a rate of $1 for 100 points. The new games bring the North American count to 220.

Wii Virtual Console update for April 14-20, 2008

This week on the Virtual Console, we have two old-school Sega games for your retro gaming pleasure. Fantasy Zone and Mega Turrican are currently up for grabs on the Wii Shop Channel. Frankly, I’m still waiting for the last remaining Nintendo classics (Hello… Majora’s Mask?), though Fantasy Zone looks pretty tasty.
