All new Rock Band DLC only works with Rock Band 3
Bad new band members, your older copies of Rock Band are creeping towards obsolecense. All Rock Band DLC tracks and track packs will now only work with Rock Band 3. So that big Bon Jovi Greatest Hits: Rock Band Edition $20 pack that came out last week won’t work in Rock Band or Rock Band 2.
The shift began October 26, 2010. That’s when Harmonix declared all DLC is for Rock Band 3 players only…
Black Friday 2009: Old Navy Gobblepalooza goes Rock Band crazy
Good news! If you happen to get to Old Navy early enough on Black Friday 2009 and purchase $20 worth of clothes, you can get Lego Rock Band for free. It’s one of two limited, video game related promotions that the store is offering this Black Friday. Pretty surprising move. All Old Navy stores will open at 3am on November 27, 2009.
Keep in mind, you’re only getting the Lego Rock Band game for free. You aren’t getting any free guitars, microphones or drum kits. Still, you get to pick out Lego Rock Band. The adscan on TheBlackFriday.com states that you can only choose from the PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii versions. No free DS game for you! The PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii versions are normally $49.99 each. This promotion will only be available on November 27, 2009 and will be very limited.
The second offer is a free Rock Band guitar controller if you purchase the Rock Band 2 PS2, PS3 or Xbox 360 video game. Once again, not a bad deal. The ad once again states that the offer is very limited.
The Old Navy Gobblepalooza Black Friday site is now open as well…
Pat Benetar, Nikko, The Pretenders and Thin Lizzy tracks added to the Rock Band Music Store
Announcements like this make me wish I had Rock Band. And a PS3 or Xbox 360 to play Rock Band 2 on. Anyways, some awesome new tracks are being added as downloadable content (DLC) this week, and all of them are classics. There are songs from Pat Benetar, Nikko, The Pretenders and Thin Lizzy, nice huh?
If you’re looking for the music, check Xbox LIVE Marketplace on February 3, 2009 and the PlayStation Store February 5, 2009. Pat Benetar’s “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” and The Pretender’s “Precious” will each cost $1.99/160 Microsoft Points. However, Nikko’s “Break My Heart” and “Don’t Tell Me” only cost $0.99/80 MP each. The Thin Lizzy songs come in a $5.49 three pack that includes live performances of “Boys are Back in Town”, “Cowboy Song” and “Jailbreak”…
Important Importables: Introducing gamers to Jrock through localized games
Japanese music is starting to get more popular among gamers, thanks to titles like The World Ends with You, Persona 3: FES and Persona 4. In order to recreate the Japanese environment and experience, the soundtracks for all three of these games was filled with Japanese hip hop, rap, pop and rock.
And while these three games seem to be getting the majority of the credit for bringing Japanese music to the attention of a wider audience, there are quite a few other games which include Japanese rock to round out the experience. The majority of games with Japanese songs included are JRPGs, but this isn’t a hard and fast rule.
Important Importables today is looking at a handful of video games which feature Japanese rock, or JRock songs by well known artists. The context in which the song appeared in the game will be discussed, as well as a little information on the artist and some songs of his, hers or theirs that may be similar to the track in question. Who knows, you may end up finding some new songs for your iPod or mp3 player…
Wii Rock Band Music Store selling and giving away tracks
Hang out an “Open” sign. Or, at the very least, take the time to pop Rock Band 2 into your Wii today. Rock Band‘s Music Store for the Nintendo console is now open (finally), and it has 50 tracks ready to be downloaded and played in Rock Band 2. The best part is, some of those tracks are free. Almost half in fact – 20 of them can be immediately downloaded and played in the game without getting out your credit or Wii Points card.
The other 30 songs all cost 200 Wii Points/$2 each, and should look familiar – they already appeared as downloadable content (dlc) for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. If you decide to get all 30, be ready to pay 6,000/$60. New songs are going to be added every week, and eventually all 500 songs already available are available to Wii owners. Also, the new Rock Band 2 dlc is going to start being released as well starting in February 2009.
And don’t worry about the tracks taking up valuable space inside the system’s build in hard drive. You can save the tracks to an SD card, and the game will read them off that card. So there’s no need hesitate when buying because you’re afraid you don’t have the room.
The 200 Wii Point tracks are as follows…
CES 2009: SanDisk selling Rock Band 2 SD Cards for Wii
It’s very difficult to have a game that relies so heavily on extra downloadable content such as Rock Band 2 on the Wii after seeing what its PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts have to offer.
Since the Wii doesn’t have a hard drive, owners have been forced to buy SD cards to store all the extra content they purchase. Nintendo will debut the music store for Rock Band 2 in 2009 and SanDisk is offering a way to store those songs if there is no room in the Wii’s internal memory. It may be a standard 2GB SD card but it is labeled with the Rock Band 2 and…
Roy Orbison’s music appearing in Rock Band 2 tomorrow
On January 6, 2009, a music legend is going to be making his debut in Rock Band 2. The first Roy Orbison track pack is going to be released tomorrow on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. It will eventually be on the PlayStation Store as well, but not until January 15, 2009.
The first Roy Orbison Rock Band 2 downloadable content pack (dlc) is going to be packed with hits. “Oh, Pretty Woman,” “Claudette,” “In Dreams,” “Ooby Dooby” and “You Got It” are the first six releases. I think it would be some sort of crime if “Oh, Pretty Woman” wasn’t included. There’d probably be riots if it wasn’t…
Playstation Store Update: Black Friday and Thanksgiving 2008 edition
With the Thanksgiving holiday rapidly approaching, Sony has decided to gift gamers early with enough games and content worthy of a feast. Digitally speaking, that is.
The main course in this update feast is the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo: HD Remix, which will set players back $15. This game has already been received favorably from sites such as 1UP and IGN and will definitely please any Street Fighter fan.
For gamers who choose to exercise their minds rather than their muscles, Brain Challenge will also be available for purchase. For $10, players can see just how strong their minds are in comparison to the competition.
For players who want to sample some older Playstation Store content, Echochrome, The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, Novastrike and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 will be on sale for…
Harmonix founders getting $300 million in bonuses for Rock Band
Bloomberg is reporting that Viacom will be paying Harmonix co-founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy a total of $300 million in bonuses for the runaway success of Rock Band.
The huge payday for the two men is part of the conditions of Viacom’s purchase of Harmonix, which occurred back in 2006. Rigopulos and Egoz have already received $150 million from Viacom during the third quarter of 2008. They will earn at least an additional $150 million in 2009 as a reward for Rock Band‘s popularity far exceeding…
Rock Band 2 coming to Europe this November
Remember how Europe got totally f**ked over when it came to the release of Rock Band? How it came out like eight months after the US launch and cost twice as much? Well, thankfully that’s not the case at all with the musical game’s sequel. EA has just announced that Rock Band 2 will launch more »
