Capcom is hosting a Marvel vs. Capcom 3 event in San Francisco
There’s lots of reasons to live in California’s Bay Area such as good weather, great sights, and tasty food. If you’re a fighting game fan then there’s one more reason: a party to kick off the launch of Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Gdgt Live to return to San Francisco, give away free stuff
Technology blog Gdgt will be returning to San Francisco this year on November 12, 2010 to put on another (guess what?) gadget-filled show for the masses. A ton of big-name sponsors will be on hand to demonstrate their latest, coolest, funkiest little electronic trinkets that you just may want to keep in mind of this holiday season.
Gallery: Possible MotorStorm 3 screens
The city of San Francisco is the stage in which these shots are taken. However these are not beautiful coastal images we would expect to see from San Francisco. The city is falling apart, people are running in the streets and fires are breaking out all over. This radical change of scenery reminds us of Split/Second. If Sony and Evolution studios are using Split/Second as a reference point, the concept of shortcuts and environmental hazards are bound to be drastically different from other MotorStorm titles.
Square Enix to host Final Fantasy XIII launch party in San Francisco
With only just a month left to go until the exciting and anticipated release of Square Enix’s latest chapter to the long-standing pivotal Final Fantasy series, fans will be clamoring to gain access to the Final Fantasy XIII launch party.
Square Enix will be hosting a two-part event in honor of the game on March 8, 2010, in San Francisco, California.
The first, coined the “Final Fantasy XIII Experience”, is described as a fan-focused event that will take place in the day across two 2-hour sessions. There, attendees can enjoy playing the game first hand, browsing a gallery of artwork, viewing trailers, and meeting members of the development staff. This daytime event will also feature a raffle where lucky individuals will be able to win “fantastic” prizes, yet to be announced. During this time, a select group of guests will also be invited to partake in the second part of the two-fold event, the Final Fantasy XIII launch party that will occur later that evening.
2009 Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival
San Francisco’s little niche known as Japan Town celebrated its 42nd annual Cherry Blossom Festival that ended with its highly anticipated grand parade on April 19, 2009.
This event usually spans for two weeks in mid-April when the cherry blossom trees are in full bloom. Hordes of people come together to partake in an abundance of ethnic foods, activities, and contests. This year’s celebration welcomed Star Trek veteran and community activist George Takei (aka Mr. Sulu) as its Grand Marshall.
Since 1999, Japan Town’s local and flourishing video rental place, aptly named Japan Video, has been sponsoring the Cherry Blossom Festival cosplay contest. This year mustered up a whopping 200 attendees who vied for the position of grand prize winner.
Participants congregated in front of San Francisco’s City Hall at 10 a.m. on Sunday (April 19, 2009) where judges would deem those worthy of receiving coveted prizes. Participants are promised gifts and goodies but neither they nor I know exactly what’s at stake until the very last minute (and remain a mystery to me even now). All participants were invited to march in the grand parade while the winners of the competition were featured on a motorized float.
Tecmo announces Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for Playstation 3
Tecmo knocked the socks off of the lucky individuals who were invited to experience the announcement of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the Playstation 3. The event was held March 24, 2009, at the Playstation store located at the Metreon in San Francisco, California. There, gawkers were treated to an adrenaline filled trailer showcasing some pretty interesting new elements to be included in the PS3 version of this formerly Xbox 360 exclusive title (Ninja Gaiden 2).
There, a slew of brand new beautifully rendered backdrops and for Ryu Hayabusa to mince oncoming hordes against. Adding to that were the inclusions of all new bigger than life bosses (literally) that included scenes of a huge Buddha statue knocking over a temple on its way through a city as well as Ryu facing off against a perturbed Statue of Liberty bringing to mind the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. It’s best to think twice before angering a lady, especially when she’s 300ft tall and could squish you like an ant under her titanic sandal.
