Dead Nation returns with a new downloadable episode

Many, many PlayStation Network account holders decided to choose Dead Nation as one of their free games in the PSN Welcome Back program. Dead Nation took the all-too popular zombie gimmick in gaming and altered it slightly by playing as a twin-stick shooter. It’s a really fun game and we figured support for Dead Nation had ceased. We were wrong.

Get your face put into Resistance 3

How would you like to have your gorgeous mug in a videogame? Sony Computer Entertainment of America is giving fans an opportunity to be cast as a survivor in Resistance 3. Two winners will participate in a face-scanning session which will result in their videogame immortality. That’s right, this is a competition, and it will end on Friday March 11, 2011.

Sony job listings suggest new anti-piracy unit

Sony’s fight against piracy isn’t done primarily by firmware updates and technicians. When technology has failed, Sony has to turn its other method of defense. This method is called litigation, and it’s darn effective. It was effective enough to (mostly) shut up George Hotz, and it was enough to for a judge to grant the company the right to raid someone’s home. These incidents are isolated, but they could be the first of many like it. That’s why Sony Computer Entertainment of America needs additional help to beef up its anti-piracy program.

Sony Computer Entertainment expands into China

Sony Computer Entertainment is moving into China. According to China Daily, the company will set up shop in the Guangdong province where it will start a training and research and development program. This will be SCE’s first time engaging China’s mainland market. Sony will begin to develop games in the region for its PlayStation brand in addition to training employees in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. SCE’s partnership with Guangdong Animation City will help create games that will be sold to other international regions.

Sony finally announces American PlayStation Move sales

Sony Computer Entertainment of America has shined some light on how well PlayStation Move fared in its territory. SCEE announced last week Move had sold 1.5 million units in Europe in its first month. Did America take to Move as well as Europeans? Well, yes and no. Jack Tretton, president of SCEA revealed PlayStation Move sold one million units in its first month. The catch is PlayStation Move wasn’t actually purchased by one million customers.

SOCOM 4 released delayed until 2011

Bad news for all the armchair SOCOMs ready to storm the beaches and take down an unsuspecting dictator. On its SOCOM blog, Zipper Interactive confirmed the first-person shooter will be delayed until sometime in 2011. Zipper’s statements indicate the delay is being used to improve the game.

E3 2010: A few things I learned at E3

Even though I’ve been writing about games since the mid-1990s, there’s still plenty to be learned from and about the game industry.

E3 2010 was certainly no exception as even the little things offered insights into those who work on and create all the pixelated goodness we enjoy each day.

While many of these will seem like, “No duh” non-revelations, each involves at least some shade of knowledge that was evidenced at E3. I mean, who thought two Sony booths next to each other would – vehemently – know nothing about each other?

SCEA VP wants less DLC

Dyer understands and supports the idea behind using DLC as a way to lower used game sales. He just wants every gamer to have access to every piece of extra content that becomes available. Dyer’s feelings suggest most if all DLC be available at retail. It’s likely that things such as map packs and episodic expansions will make it onto a separate disc. Smaller DLC such as new costumes or a few cars is a little more tricky to handle.
