Scribblenauts Remix gets some DLC

scribblenauts remix

Super Scribblenauts is getting even bigger and better than before. The iOS incarnation of 5th Cell’s iconic game has an edge over the DS versions, and I’m not talking about the ability to say an object’s name and have it appear on-screen. This version of the game can receive updates and DLC, which means more more »

Scribblenauts Remix an iOS sampling of Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts

Scribblenauts is a delightful, DS exclusive no longer. Warner Bros. and 5th Cell have decided that its majesty must be shared with all iOS users as well. No, the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch isn’t getting ports of Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts. It’s getting the $4.99 Scribblenauts Remix.

The remix part stems from Scribblenauts Remix being a bit of a mashup of both Scribblenauts, Super Scribblenauts and new, original content…

Bring joy to friends and family with Scribblenauts toys

Here’s a little bit of news to brighten your day. You love the DS games Scribblenauts and Super Scribblenauts, don’t you? Of course you do! Well, now you can inject a little bit of that magic into real life. It’s time for Maxwell toys! That’s the main character of the games. You know, the little dude with the incredibly strange fashion sense.

Funko is going to be releasing two Maxwell toys in June, 2011…

Will StarCraft II live up to the hype?

In four days (July 27, 2010) StarCraft II will finally grace us with its presence, 12 long years after the the release of the first game. As the space marine in the very first teaser trailer so cheekily put it, “Hell, it’s about time.” After years of speculation, discussion, screenshots, demos, beta testing, and probably hundreds of articles on the game I can’t help but ask as the release date approaches: will it be worth it?

E3 2010: Hands-on with Super Scribblenauts

While stopping by Warner Bros. booth at E3 2010 to make a LEGO character and take pictures with LEGO Harry, Hermoine, Ron and Hagrid, I happened to see that Super Scribblenauts DS demos were set up nearby. There’s no way someone can see Scribblenauts demo stations and pass them by, so of course I ran right over and claimed an available DS so I could see what Maxwell’s up to now. Fortunately, I was able to try out not one, but two puzzles from Super Scribblenauts.

The first puzzle stumped me. I’ll admit it, after five minutes I gave up. Maxwell was at the back of a line at a game store, hoping to get a copy of Super Scribblenauts. The task was to get to the front of the line. Sounds simple. It wasn’t. No innocents were allowed to be harmed, which is exactly what happened when I tried to summon a pegasus for Maxwell to ride to the front of the line. The army man in front of him got mad and attacked the person in front of him. My next idea was just to run in front of everyone, hopefully fast enough where no one could grab me. But once again, failed – this time for cutting in line. As a last resort, after six various attempts, I decided to try the handcuff and vending machine trick, in the hopes that I could “fill” the vending machine with the game and drag it over to Maxwell so he could easily acquire the game. Unfortunately (or fortunately, if you like a challenge), 5th Cell removed that little “trick”.

I then went to the second demo puzzle, which placed Maxwell in what looked like a Super Mario level…

Start building your vocabulary for Super Scribblenauts

If you decide you want to pick up the Scribblenauts sequel when it’s released in Fall 2010, make sure you ask for Super Scribblenauts. That’s what Warner Bros. has decided to call the new DS game. It’s a nice choice, and much better than Scribblenauts 2.

It’s also quite appropriate, when you think about it. One of the new additions in Super Scribblenauts is the ability to use adjectives to create more customized and specific items. So it’s only fitting that an adjective is placed before the title!

Super Scribblenauts is also going to have an improved control scheme, which should make a lot of people happy. (I know I’m lookin forward to that!) There’ll also be more levels to go through to help Maxwell collect Starites…

Flying out of Indianapolis? Buy some DS games

Inside the airport’s B concourse is a Best Buy vending machine. It sells electronic items such as portable televisions, mp3 players and Nintendo DS games. While walking by I managed to get a picture at the selection. The machine currently has a selection of three Nintendo DS games and a DSi console. The available games are Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Scribblenauts and Mario Kart DS.

Scribblenauts 2 arriving in Fall 2010

Remember last year, there was this little game called Scribblenauts released by 5th Cell and Warner Bros. Interactive. It had an interesting sort of premise, where people would have to solve puzzles in 220s by writing words on their DS’ touch screen to spawn items. Oh, and it also happened to be one of the best selling DS games of 2009. Can’t forget that.

You can probably guess where this is going – success spawns sequels, and Scribblenauts 2 has just been announced. 5th Cell’s working on it, Warner Bros. is publishing it and if all goes well, it’ll be out in Fall, 2010.

The new concept implemented in Scribblenauts 2 is the use of adjectives…

Gamertell’s top 10 2009 DS games

Tons of fantastic DS games were released in 2009, and now that we’re entering into 2010 it seems only fitting to honor 10 of the best released last year. Compling such a list is a difficult task, especially considering how many fantastic games were released in 2009, but the final choices mark the best of the best of 2009.

There are quite a few others games though, that do deserve to be acknowledged as runners-up. Games that were good, but not quite good enough to make the top 10. For exampe, there was The Legendary Starfy, Dragon Quest V, Pokemon Platinum, Phantasy Star Zero, Rhythm Heaven and Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. Many great games were released, but only 10 can be considered the best.

And now, on to Gamertell’s 10 best DS games released in 2009…

10 best unintentionally educational games

Video games are often berated for the lack of educational content found in them. They’re often considered a waste of time. But, if you look closely, even games that aren’t slapped with the edutainment label or feature educational material can be teaching valuable skills to the people playing them.

Gamertell’s put together a brief list of some video games that weren’t created with the developers aiming to educate the masses, but can end up helping players build some valuable skills. With some, the educational value is pretty obvious, but with others you probably could spend hours playing without even realizing you’ve learned something from it…
