Review: Guardian Heroes for XBLA

I have a confession. Whenever I hear that an older game is getting re-released in high definition, I usually let out a sigh that’s fueled by disinterest. These things seem like cash grabs to me most of the time. Granted, there are some genuinely good remakes, but others are hardly better than the original. When I started playing the HD remake of Guardian Heroes, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this particular Sega Saturn remake has aged well and looks even better.

Important Importables: Sega Saturn

When it comes to console wars, there are usually at least three factions (systems) involved. Right now, we’ve got the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 dividing gamers. Before that, there was the Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2 and Xbox. Today, we’re going to focus on what pretty much everyone considered the “loser” of the fifth generation of console gaming, the Sega Saturn. Guardian Heroes gets updated for Xbox Live Arcade

Guardian Heroes is a side-scrolling, beat’em up game with some RPG elements thrown in for good measure…

When animated series are successful enough, video game developers and publishers will try to cash in and create games that fans of the series will enjoy. While many of these games can fall under the shovelware umbrella, a few attempts stand out as truly entertaining and worthwhile endeavors.

This week’s installment of Important Importables is devoted to the best of the best, the anime games that were so good, even people who are unfamiliar with the original series seek them out. A few of them may seem incredibly familiar, as they even received worldwide releases. Rest assured though, the following 10 games and series are so good, you’ll enjoy them even if you’ve never even heard of the animes they’re based on.
