Aliens: Colonial Marines CE includes physical and digital bonuses

aliens colonial marines collectors edition

When it comes to games, it’s difficult to keep secrets very long. Aliens: Colonial Marines is a good example. Apparently, the image above showing the exact contents of the game’s collector’s edition showed up online within the past few days. Now, it’s everywhere. So even though Sega’s only just announced that the PS3, Xbox 360 more »

House of the Dead 3 and 4 relocating to PSN

house of the dead 3

Apparently, there just haven’t been enough zombies appearing on the PlayStation Network. You know, despite All Zombies Must Die, Burn Zombie Burn!, Dead Nation, The Last Guy and countless other zombie-attacking games infesting the store. That’s the only reason I can see for Sega decided that House of the Dead 3 and House of the more »

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 breaking the sound barrier in 2012

sonic the hedgehog 4 episode 2 metal sonic teaser

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 first appeared in October, 2010, signaling Sega’s willingness to return Sonic to his roots and feature him in games that are actually good again. Even though the first downloadable episode had a few issues (physics problems, to be precise), it showed promise. Then we went a whole year without more »

Important Importables: Classic Phantasy Star

phantasy star sega master system box

The Phantasy Star series weren’t always MMO games, or even action RPGs with lite MMO elements. There was a time when it was akin to the Final Fantasy series and the name was brought up when referring to challenging and intriguing turn-based RPGs about heroes facing off against evil and insurmountable odds. So before we more »

Select Sega downloads on sale until January 2012

Sega is one of those companies that has no problems discounting its downloadable games. Whenever it has a chance, it’ll usually drop a 50%-80% off the price of its games to get people who normally wouldn’t be interested to spend some money. Since Christmas is coming up this weekend, it’s no surprise that Sega’s iOS, PSN and XBLA games will experience a brief price drop to celebrate the season.

Depending on which platform you’re shopping for, you’ll have more or less time to grab reduced games…

Review: Sonic Generations for 3DS

Sonic Generations is the kind of game Sonic the Hedgehog fans have been hoping for the past few years. It mixes the classic game gameplay of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 with some experimental and modern moves to bring people an adventure that reminds you of the glory days, honors’ Sonic’s 25th anniversary and yet still manages to be fresh even when revisiting prior locations in the series. The main adventure may be short, but it is rather fun and manages to perfectly capture the spirit of the classic Sonic experience. Besides, it’s always nice to have a game with lots of mini-missions to zip through when you have 10 or 15 minutes to spare…

Fallen Realms appears on the Android Market, courtesy of Sega

Sega and PapayaMobile have brought a new game to the Android Market that looks like it could be quite promising. As any Android device owner is well aware, there aren’t too many traditional RPGs yet. Oh sure, we have action RPGs from Gamevil and Kemco’s doing a good job of bringing turn-based RPGs back, but there still aren’t a lot of options out there. Fallen Realms helps out by giving one more alternative to try. Not to mention the base game is free-to-play.

Although, comparing Fallen Realms to Gamevil and Kemco’s endeavors is being quite generous. Rather than being a full, 2D, turn-based RPG, Fallen Realms is more of a streamlined, RPG experience….

Review: Shinobi for 3DS

The first time I played Shinobi on my 3DS, it took me five continues to make it through the first level.

Not to mention the first level took me over 25 minutes to complete.

And I had to go back and reread the tutorial screens twice, because I needed a refresher on how to properly use magic jutsus and the chain.

Shinobi is a very demanding game. It wouldn’t be unrealistic to even call the difficulty crushing. And it isn’t like you get some incredibly awesome unlockables or a fantastic ending scene for completing it. Yet somehow, it still manages to be quite satisfying. Especially when the player reaches a point where it’s possible to effortlessly fly through a level, taking out enemies without being hit….

Sega’s holding a 2011 Early Bird Sale on iTunes

Yay for not only Black Friday sales on physical media, but on digital downloads as well! Sega is the latest company to say it wants to encourage iTunes shopping with an app sale. This one has been dubbed the Early Bird Sale, what with Thanksgiving happening November 24, 2011 and the sale starting today, November 22, 2011.

This is a pretty standard sale. Until November 28, 2011, 12 well-known Sega iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch games will be reduced…

Sega PSN and XBLA classics’ prices plummet until the end of November

Most of the recent sales covered have been physical deals. Items you’ll actually have to go into a store and buy, and probably won’t even get to until next week. However, there’s one sale now available that you can access immediately and digitally. Sega’s decided to do their own kind of holiday shopping thing over the next two weeks. If you own a PS3, you can get one of four Sega Classic downloads for 50% off until November 29, 2011. If you own an Xbox 360, you can get one of six Sega downloads for 50% between November 22-28, 2011. I guess you could consider it a digital Black Friday sale.

Almost all of the sale games are ports of old Genesis, Dreamcast or Arcade games. So you could look at this as an opportunity to reminisce. Unfortunately, there’s no gifting system on place for either PSN or XBLA, so you can’t take advantage of this promotion to get something for someone you love.

Anyways, here are the sale games…
