Opinion: Nintendo regained lost hearts with E3 press conference

From the start of the press conference, Nintendo had me hooked. Starting with something as influential as Legend of Zelda is a pretty risky gamble but it really paid off. It is one of the most recognizable Nintendo licenses in existence, coming in second to that lovable Italian stereotype, Mario. With a Zelda product being released for each Nintendo platform, they’re celebrating that birthday in style. Sure, some of the releases they’ve got coming out are even within this notable franchise are re-releases but the orchestra and Shigeru Miyamoto’s playful child-like glee made it next to impossible not fall back in love with Nintendo.

Have you ever wondered why Mario is chubby?

Iwata Asks always provides fascinating insight into the world of Nintendo. Iwata Asks confirmed to us that a 3DS Mario game is in development and that the 3DS would support 3D video recording. In the latest Iwata Asks column, we finally get to know why Mario is so chubby. It’s not because the guy gorges on mushrooms, or that he just loves spaghetti and meatballs. If Mario were created today, he might be designed as having abs of steel. Back in the NES days, Mario’s design was due to hardware limitations.

Gaming journalists auction signed DSes for charity

It seems that everyone is doing his or her part, no matter how large or small, to donate money to aid the victims of Japan’s double disaster earthquake and tsunami. Even gaming journalists have gotten in the picture. Both Peter Rojas and Meagan Marie are auctioning off their autographed Nintendo DS handhelds in the name of charity.

New Super Mario Bros. game confirmed for Nintendo 3DS

Fans of the portly plumber should be rather happy to hear that there’s still life the icon’s old bones.

Shigeru Miyamoto when confirmed that a new Mario was in development for the 3DS. He didn’t release any further details about the game, however. Fans of the portly plumber should be rather happy to hear that there’s still life the icon’s old bones.

Miyamoto is said during an interview: “In the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system.”

Nintendo CEO thinks 3D video on 3DS “will be fun”

The Nintendo 3DS can do more than play 3D games. It also has a 3D camera on-board. It will be the only handheld videogame console that lets you take 3D photos. We’re bound to see more 3D cameras this year, but Nintendo may have plans for a 3D video recording feature that will further set it apart from potential competition.

Shigeru Miyamoto confirms Mario 3DS game

There are a few things in this life that are a certainty. A Call of Duty game will sell millions, a cat will always be selfish and Mario will always appear on a Nintendo platform. The weird thing is, a Mario-focused 3DS game hasn’t been announced. It’s unlike Nintendo to debut a new console without giving our favorite part-time plumber so much as a mention. You can be assured a Mario 3DS game is coming and Mario’s creator can confirm that.

First induction announced on the Video game Hall of Fame

For many years the big names of the sports world, like Reggie Jackson, Broadway Joe Namath, Big Joe Montana and the mighty Jerry Rice, have entered the Halls of Fame for their outstanding feats in their respective sports. Now, heroes of a different kind are being given the same treatment when the International Video Game Hall of Fame (IVGHF) conducts its first induction ceremony on August 5, 2010.

The five most memorable moments of E3 2010

A lot of stuff goes down at any E3. However, there are always a few events that are talked about throughout the expo (and they are not necessarily newsworthy).

Here’s a look at five of the more memorable and chatted about happenings at E3 2010

Nintendo’s next generation console depends on Miyamoto’s ideas

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke with Kotaku at GDC 2010 where he noted the state of Nintendo’s consoles. It has been rumored that a Wii HD console will come sooner rather than later, but Fils-Aime feels Nintendo’s next console will not depend on time, but rather innovation.
