Free-to-play MMO Halloween 2008 event review

If you’ve ever dabbled in one of the many free-to-play massive multiplayer online games, you’ll know that each one celebrates real world holidays in their own way. Halloween is no exception, with many different games from Nexon, Aeria, Joymax, IGG, GameMasters.com, GamesCampus, Outspark, Gametribe.com, Ntreev and OGPlanet all hosting special events to coincide with the holiday season.

So, to make things easier on you, Gamertell has looked throughthe MMOs from the above publishers and compiled a list of the spooky happenings in select MMOs. Most of these events last until shortly after October 31, 2008, but many MMOs are hosting multiple Halloween events with multiple expiration dates…

Silkroad Online hits 100,000 simultaneous player milestone

I honestly had no idea that Joymax’s Silkroad Online was so popular until I read yesterday’s (June 25, 2008) press release. Apparently the free MMORPG has hit a milestone, with over 100,000 players all playing at the same time on Joymax’s global servers. Considering that Joymax has over 7.2 million recorded users for the game, you’d think that number would be higher.

If you factor in the other versions of Silkroad Online, which are published in other countries by some other companies that partnered up with Joymax, that figure rises slightly. If all Silkroad Online players, regardless of publisher/region are put together, there can be over 170,000 people playing at once and over 18 million users.

Game&Game World Championship 2007 has begun

The international game competition Game&Game World Championship (GNGWC) kicked off second season with the preliminary round in Europe earlier this month (August 2007). The international event has gamers from Korea, Europe, Southeast Asia, Japan and the US competing in preliminary rounds in each country and then against each other in the finals on December 1, 2007, in Seoul, Korea.

The six first place winners from each preliminary event (one for each PC game in the competition) will be sent to Korea to compete in the finals while runners-up winners will receive a digital camera, MP3 player or a DVD player. Some regional runners-up winners for specific games will…
