Medieval Times restaurants to host Sims Medieval launch event

Hear ye, hear ye! The Sims Medieval, one of the most unconventional and intriguing representations of the standard Sims game so far, will be released on March 22, 2011. To celebrate its arrival, EA will hold several launch parties at –where else?– Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament.

The Sims 3 new expansion pack gets ambitious

EA has just announced another The Sims 3 expansion pack. I know, it’s shocking. I’ll give you a moment to process it.

It’s expected, considering how many expansions The Sims (7) and The Sims 2 (8) had. The Sims 3: Ambitions is all about jobs. Hey, World Adventures don’t just finance themselves!

The Sims 3: Ambitions will not only add lots of extra jobs though, it will also allow players to follow their sims while they are at work. This is a first for the series, as normally sims will just get in a car, head to work, and then time will speed up until the work day ends. Now, players will get to see their sims work and decide how to handle situations at their jobs. This will effect their character’s career success.

The press release also mentions a handful of the new careers that will be included in the expansion. Here’s a quick list…

Celebrate The Sims 10th anniversary with free Sims 3 store items

Sims fans who happen to own The Sims 3 will be quite pleased to know that EA has decided to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Sims with freebies. If you’ve registered your copy of The Sims 3, log in to your account and head over to the Sims 3 Store. There are six items waiting for you to download them.

Click on the Sets heading, then head over to The Sims Celebrations. There are three, free downloadable content packs called “Let there be Sims!,” “The Sims Strike Back” and “In the Dawn of Sims.” Each DLC pack contains two items you can use in your game. The first DLC released was “In the Dawn of Sims”, which includes a Golden Woman of Prosperity painting of Bella Goth and Ironic Clown painting. “The Sims Strike Back” came second and contains a pink Party Flamingo Wall Lamp, just like the one found in the first game, and a Surreal Grilled Cheese Painting. The most recent download is “Let there be Sims!” and includes a Spirited Puck outfit for a child sim and a Beautiful Forest painting…

The Sims 3 receives PETA award for Most Animal-Friendly Game of 2009

Electronic Arts’ The Sims 3 has just won an award for depicting vegetarians and vegans in a positive light.

The award, called a Proggy, is granted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and this year The Sims 3 took the honors in the Most Animal-Friendly Game of 2009 category.

In the game, players can choose to create a vegetarian character and adopt a meat-free lifestyle. Vegetarian characters in the game have a selection of foods according to their needs. They can even enjoy snacks like tofu hot dogs or different types of salads.

If by some mistake or someone else’s mischief a vegetarian character eats meat, it will get sick. If they stick to their diets, vegetarian characters age more slowly and live longer lives.

Town declares plastic pink flamingo its official bird, Sims cities should, too

According to a 30-second NPR brief titled “Pink Flamingos Are ‘Bees Knees’ In Madison, Wisc.” (September 3, 2009), the town has officially made the the plastic flamingo its official bird.

Yep, that’s right. A fake, plastic flamingo that you stick in your yard is the legal, official bird of Madison. Sweet.

Even better, the decision was mad in honor of a 30-year-old college prank involving more than 1,000 of the faux birds (and probably just as many drunk students).

I like that idea so much I’d like to propose a parallel video game designation.

The Sims 3 to be available February 20, 2009

Exciting news about The Sims 3 release date was just announced on August 20, 2008 at the Leipzig Game Convention held in Leipzig, Germany. Electronics Arts, Inc. has confirmed that The Sims 3 will be available all around the world to retailers and digital downloaders alike on February 20, 2009. The Sims 3 is the highly anticipated follow-up PC game to the popular multi-platform The Sims 2 franchise.

The Sims 3 will introduce a brand new engine that will allow players to completely immerse their unique Sims in a newly developed “living” and seamless neighborhood where Sims can explore such locations as the beach, mountains, or town center freely. Unlike The Sims 2, where a player’s actions only affected those Sims who lived in a particular household, what you do on one side of the neighborhood may have lasting effects on the entire populace…

Red vs. Blue ends tonight with episode #100

For all the fans of Rooster Teeth Production’s wacky web series Red Vs. Blue, this is a bittersweet date.

The 100th and final final episode of the comedy series that used the Halo engine to pioneer machinima – movies made out of in-game video footage – will be released this evening (June 27, 2007). This will also complete the storyline that began in 2003 and has included time travel, interspecies mating, talking bombs and all manner of animated military hijinks. Though Rooster Teeth will occasionally release Red vs. Blue specials, the 15 minute finale will be the end the series as we know it.
