SNK releasing Neo Geo Portable pre-loaded with 20 games
If there’s one thing to be sure of in the gaming world, it’s that the Neo Geo won’t back down. True, SNK’s consoles and handhelds never achieved the same level of fame as the Nintendo, Sega or Sony devices, but that didn’t stop the company from trying. Even the Neo Geo Pocket Color experienced a more »
Review: King of Fighters XIII for PS3, Xbox 360
When you think about it, King of Fighters XIII is kind of ironic. A really good game and one of the best, recent entries in the King of Fighters series, but still. SNK Playmore has been known for its fighting games for years, since back when arcades were where it was at. But now, it’s been sidelined by Capcom, Namco Bandai and Arc System Works.
At first, SNK Playmore decided to try and reclaim its glory by following the path Capcom and Namco Bandai took, experimenting with 3D character models and 2.5D. It didn’t go so well for them. Now, it’s going back to its roots and following Arc System Works’ path, putting together a game with gorgeous 2D HD characters, a more thought-out story and multiple game modes. It works, and the result is a game fighting fans will want to own…
The King of Fighters Encounter offers a new approach to fighting
SNK Playmore and Kayac have just added a rather unique take on King of Fighters to iTunes. The King of Fighters Encounter is a combination of social networking game and StreetPass seeking. Well, StreetPass is what 3DS owners would call it. I guess everyone else would refer to it as a tag-mode game.
When you download the free The King of Fighters Encounter to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you’ll be able to take part in fighters with your favorite KoF characters without expending any effort…
The King of Fighters-i gets a free update, temporary price cut
The King of Fighters-i is now officially better than it’s ever been. SNK Playmore has just updated the iOS fighting game to give more people even more content for their $7.99. When the game originally launched on July 7, 2011, with its 14 fighters and multiple game modes, it was pretty awesome. Now with it’s September 9, 2011 update, it’s even better.
That’s because all players get even more content for free…
Third batch of NeoGeo Station releases is quite small
We’ve been seeing gradual PS3 and PSP releases of classic NeoGeo games until the NeoGeo Station moniker, but the latest batch is going to be a bit of a shock to classic game fans. Not because the games being added are breathtaking or highlight anticipated classics, but because there are just so few of them. I mean, we have 12 NeoGeo Station releases so far, so you’d think the third batch would include more than two new additions.
But hey, at least we’re still getting something. So no need getting upset over the fact that the only games in the third batch are Shock Troopers and World Heroes…
PAX Prime 2011: Atlus is bringing 3 games
It seems like every game company is getting ready to go out of its way to attend PAX 2011 August 26-28, 2011. Whether its a big or small publisher, it’s there. Atlus is among them and, if you’re a part of the Atlus Faithful email newsletter listing, you probably received their note reminding everyone they’ll be there.
There are only three games that will be at booth #682 from Atlus, but they’re interesting ones…
Review: Baseball Stars 2 for PS3
There is clearly a market for sports games. However in my gaming circle baseball, basketball, football and soccer games hardly get any attention. Sports simulation games can be too technical, and if you don’t already have invested an interest in them, you won’t have any idea what’s going on. That’s something you don’t have to worry about in Baseball Stars 2.
Review: The King of Fighters 95 for PS3
King of Fighters is a fighting series staple now, but that wasn’t always so. The series only first began back in 1994, and the early games set precedents for the series’ future, as well inspiration for other fighting games that would offer 3 on 3 team battles. When The King of Fighters ’95 was released back in 1995 in arcades and on the Neo Geo, it was considered an average but admirable endeavor. Fans will be happy to know that the game has aged rather well, and it’s NeoGeo Station PS3 release does a good job of recreating the experience of playing the game back in the day in your local arcade or on your Neo Geo.
King of Fighters XIII playable at EVO 2K and Otakon, comes with 4 CD soundtrack
Atlus is really going to spoil people who purchase The King of Fighters XIII for their PS3 or Xbox 360. I mean, you think it would be enough to get a great fighting game with lots of characters, a Story mode with multiple endings influenced by decisions players make with playing, three kinds of Online Versus matches, a Mission mode and a Tutorial mode. Nope! Atlus decided that each pre-ordered copy of the game should also come with a four CD soundtrack set…
Crown the new King of Fighters in October 2011
Atlus’ E3 2011 announcement of King of Fighters XIII was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t totally unexpected, since the company has covered a North American release of a King of Fighters game before, King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood (GBA), but I’m sure it still raised a few eyebrows. Prepare for that to happen again, since the PS3 and Xbox 360 game is going to be released sooner than you think. Like, October 25, 2011 soon.
In addition to the release date announcement, Atlus also released a brand new, gameplay trailer…
