My Xbox is getting a major update
The Xbox Live dashboard isn’t the only Xbox feature Microsoft is giving a makeover to. The My Xbox section of Xbox.com is getting replaced in a few days as well. Microsoft is calling the new section “Social”. Social will implement the previously announced Xbox 360 Beacons feature, and Microsoft’s Metro user interface. Metro is also featured across other Microsoft products such as Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8.
Harrison Ford is making a game called Ecotopia
In what is probably the oddest story of the day, Harrison Ford and Conservation International is making a game with a developer named Talkie. The game is called Ecotopia, and it will be available on Facebook on April 4, 2011. It’s a free-to-play game that puts an emphasis on creating a green world. By green, I mean environmentally friendly.
Sony asks you to give Home another shot
How long has it been since you last visited PlayStation Home? My last visit was during the first days of the Killzone Plaza Defender festivities. Before then, I can’t remember the lasted time I logged in. Sony must know there are a lot of people who pass on Home, and would like for those individuals to give the service another chance.
Books about gamers for librarians, teachers
In the Los Angeles Times, writer Alex Pham reports that the San Fernando Library encourages youth to play video games and even invites them to be as loud as they like.
“It lets teens be more comfortable with the library and become familiar with librarians,” San Fernando librarian Lydia Harlan told Pham. “And it’s what kids are into these days.”
In the article, Pham reports that more libraries are turning to video games to connect with technologically savvy youth who might be losing interest in books and stories. In New York, the New York Public Library has even added a collection of books, films, music and maps about video games.
