Kindle Fire update makes things run a bit smoother

The Kindle Fire is immensely popular. We’d love to go into details about how many people bought a Kindle Fire, but Amazon is always so secretive about actual sales figures. For now, I think it’s safe to say over a million people purchased Amazon’s tablet. The reviews have been mostly positive considering the Kindle Fire is a $200 device, but issues such as lag still came up frequently. Don’t worry, Amazon has an update available right now for the Kindle Fire that may fix those pesky issues.

Sony updates PSP firmware and Media Go software

Well, it looks like you won’t be able to immediately access the PlayStation Store the next time you turn on your PSP. Sony’s released another firmware update for the system, bringing the software up to version 6.35. The PSP isn’t the only one getting an update though, as the Media Go program people can use for PSP downloads has also been updated to version 1.6. Time to start downloading…

Gamertell Review: Collectorz Game Collector 3.2 Pro software

If you’ve been gaming for longer than five years, you’ve likely amassed an impressive collection of games so large your friends and significant other complain about not being able to find that one game they always like to play.

That’s where Collectorz’s Game Collector application can come in rather handy.

Use a CueCat scanner with Collectorz’s Game Collector software

Back in 2000, Radio Shack (and Digital Convergence) gave away free barcode scanners called the CueCat (aka:CueCat) that connected to your computer. You’d use it to scan stuff and then it would open a web page based on whatever you scanned. It was a nice idea that simply flopped.

A lot of those little scanners are still around (heck, I have three) and operational so, naturally, people want to use the cute little scanners with more modern applications including home collection software made by Collectorz. Particularly, gamers can use a barcode scanner to scan their collection of video games for a complete and easy-to-browse catalog using Game Collector.

Although Collectorz sells that and…

Norton AntiVirus 2009 Gaming Edition promises to be less intrusive

Have you tried to play a computer game, while your brother is trying to download some music and the system is running the weekly virus update? It’s not an easy task. In fact, it’s usually a very frustrating task.

Symantec knows just how you feel, which is why the company is releasing Norton AntiVirus 2009 Gaming Edition. It will be designed specifically for gaming, which we all know takes up the most memory on the system. It keeps malware at bay while also making sure nothing is interrupted or lost during your MMO game play…

PC games only capture 14% of game sales in 2007

According to a new post at GameLife, sales of PC games are suffering even in an era of unprecedented growth within the industry. Recently released NPD numbers indicate that PC titles are only accounting for 14% of the industry-wide $18.5 billion software revenue in 2007. Apparently, there is some contention involving digital distribution: sales of games handled over online services such as Valve’s Steam aren’t accounted for by the NPD numbers. The post also notes that even the top selling games did disappointing business outside of the number one title (World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade).

Many in the industry are looking at the figures as a bad sign for the future of PC gaming, citing everything from the cheaper alternative of next-gen consoles (which are beginning to compete with high end PC’s) to the rampant piracy that occurs surrounding popular titles. The 2007 PC sales chart (from GameDaily) is certainly telling:
