Sony buys Sony Ericsson, expect more PlayStation Certified phones

There had been rumors circling around recently regarding Sony’s intentions to acquire Sony Ericsson. Today, those rumors have been made official. Sony has bought out Sony Ericsson’s shares and will soon integrate the mobile phone maker into the Sony empire as a whole. Sony will pay Ericsson €1.05 billion (approximately $1.47 billion) in a deal that’s expected to close in January 2012. It still has to be approved by executives in both companies, but that’s customary in transactions such as this.

PopCap’s games will come pre-loaded on Xperia phones

PopCap’s influence cannot be stopped. An agreement has recently been made by PopCap and Sony Ericsson to bring select PopCap games to the Sony Ericsson Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro smartphones in Europe. Games By PopCap will come pre-loaded on each of the devices when they launch later this summer.

Gameloft announces its 10 Xperia PLAY launch titles

We now know that 10 of the 50 launch titles for the Xperia Play will be provided by Gameloft. Gameloft is no stranger to the mobile platform. It has released several games on iOS and Android. Some of them can even be seen as a little unoriginal. Gameloft will be bringing some familiar franchises to Xperia Play when it launches on March 29.

Xperia Play won’t recognize existing PSN purchases

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play will be available this spring on Verizon in the United States. It will ship with over 50 games. Among the playable games are PSone classics from yesteryear. Many PSone games are currently available in the PlayStation Store. It’s too bad we won’t be able to transfer the games we’ve already purchased to Xperia Play. If we want to play downloaded PSN games on the phone, we’ll have to buy them again.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has finally been revealed during Mobile World Congress today. By now there isn’t too much we can say about this phone that hasn’t already been leaked in the weeks prior to this announcement. Xperia Play announcement coming February 13, 2011

If you were watching Super Bowl XLV today (February 6, 2011), then you probably caught a very interesting commercial for Sony’s latest device. Not the NGP, the Xperia Play! Yes, the PlayStation smartphone made its debut, though the commercial didn’t really tell us too much. It just confirmed that it’s a Sonny Ericsson PlayStation phone with an Android OS.

New video shows PSOne games playing on PlayStation phone

Another day, another PlayStation phone aka Xperia Play leak. This time a video has been released showing someone playing two classic PSOne era games on the PlayStation phone. The device looks to be the same as the one in previous videos and just adds more credibility to Sony Ericsson’s still unannounced smartphone.

Rumor: PlayStation phone gets an in-depth look

As time goes on, rumors and leaked media of the PlayStation phone gets clearer. The last time we reported on this phone, a Japanese newspaper suggested the phone would be released in spring 2011. The phone was also pictured with the Xperia branding at its base. The latest massive leak comes from a Chinese website called IT168, which posted a lot of specs and pictures of the PlayStation phone.

Japanese newspaper reports Spring 2011 release for PlayStation phone

The latest batch of PlayStation phone related news comes from a Japanese newspaper called Asahi Shimbun which says Sony Ericsson’s PlayStation Phone will be released in spring 2011. This report is similar to a previous story in which sources talking to Pocket-lint said the PlayStation phone would be released in April 2011. Asahi Shimbum also reiterated on past photos and videos that show the PlayStation phone as having a design similar to the PSPgo.

Rumor: PlayStation phone debuts in February, in stores by April 2011

The PlayStation phone saga continues with a rumor that claims the PlayStation phone is just a couple months away from being officially announced. We’ve seen some very impressive evidence supporting the existence of the PlayStation phone including photos and video. If a report from Pocket-lint proves to be accurate, the PlayStation phone will debut in February, and will go on sale in April.
