10 Games your mother (or grandmother) would love
Mother’s Day is this Sunday (May 9, 2010), and there’s just enough time to get out there and pick something special up for your mother, grandmother or wife. While cards and flowers are nice, a game is just as thoughtful – especially since it’ll last longer. So in honor of the forthcoming special occasion, I’ve put together a brief list of games which might appeal to them and work well as gifts.
Now you’re probably asking how I would know a mother, or grandmother, would love these games. Well, I have done extensive research (I asked my mother and my mother’s friends – some of whom are grandmothers) what games they love. Yes, all mothers are unique and special with their own tastes, but there’s still a good chance that yours might have similar tastes…

PS3 owners who live in North America will soon be able to pick up some phenomenal games at a budget price. Sony announced today on the PlayStation.Blog that it has added 10 games to its Greatest Hits collection. Yup, 10! They’ll all be $29.99 from now on, instead of $49.99 or $59.99. The catch is that they’re all really great games, so you might already own them.

Triad Toys to release 12-inch Taki Spring 2009
All you Taki fans out there can finally rejoice because Triad Toys will be releasing a 12 inch model of this vivacious Soul Calibur vixen on March 27, 2009. And she’s dressed appropriately enough to take home to mom.
Here are some details about this highly anticipated figure as stated on the Triad Toys site:
- New Triad Toys Otaku 1.2 body with over 25 points of articulation, magnetized feet and full metal hips
- Ultra-realistic head with Saran hair and hand-painted head
- Ultra-detailed Rekki-Maru and Mekki-Maru daggers, detailed clothing, weapons and body armor
- Features the new Triad Bullet-Time action figure stand
I’m not too sure what it means for a figure to have an “Otaku 1.2 body” but, judging from the preliminary images, it looks like it may mean more than just being able to…

Mid-Ohio-Con 2008: Comics, games, Hulk, Jay and the Batmobile
After getting shut down, resurrected by new owners, moved to a new venue and taking place two month earlier than normal, the Mid-Ohio-Con (aka MOC) was this past weekend (October 4-5, 2008) at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH (USA). The convention is typically a showcase for Ohio area comic book artists and stores with a smattering of additional celebrity guests and other goodies.
There were two videogame booths a the MOC, one for Ninja Gaiden and the other was promoting Soul Calibur IV. There were a few celebrities, several big-name comic artists, the Batmobile and costumes aplenty…
Playstation Store Update for the week of August 28 to September 3, 2008
Just another typical week at the Playstation Store. Nothing really worth mentioning on the list this time, except that the name of the new James Bond flick reminds me far too much of a Castlevania title. I eagerly await its sequel, Symphony of the Soviets.
Here, do yourselves a big favor. Go and play Samurai Showdown 2 and Ys instead.

Soul Calibur IV news from E3
Namco Bandai discussed the marketing plan for Soul Calibur IV at E3, as well as mentioning that the Xbox 360 and PS3 game has gone gold. The latest title, which will feature three Star Wars characters (Yoda, Darth Vader and Darth Vader’s secret apprentice) and special characters from Japanese manga artists, will be released July 29, 2008 in normal ($59.99) and premium ($79.99) editions.
The first portion of the Soul Calibur IV marketing plan is a huge ad campaign. There will be 15 and 30 second commercials on cable stations in the US and Canada during July and August, 2008. There will also be ads online and in magazines, and supposedly retail partnerships.

Soul Calibur IV’s Star Wars arena
Joystiq recently posted a (grainy) video from Anime Expo 2008 showing off Soul Calibur IV‘s Star Wars themed stage. Apparently titled “The Star Destroyer Landing Bay”, it looks an awful lot like the area where the emperor made his first live-action appearance in Return of the Jedi. Fanboys (and girls!) correct me if I’m wrong. more »
