SouthPeak Interactive reports only $1.4 million in revenue for Q1 fiscal 2011

Yesterday, SouthPeak Interactive announced the financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2011. The company reported a substantial decrease in revenue compared to its first quarter 2010 numbers. SouthPeak brought in $1.4 million as opposed to the $16.7 million the company made one year ago.

E3 2010: Check out SouthPeak’s game lineup

SouthPeak Interactive’s the latest company who’s decided to let everyone know what it’s going to be showing at E3 2010. This year, the preliminary lineup is somewhat sparse. Really! The company’s announcement only includes three games. Well, maybe SouthPeak is saving some more surprises for the event.

If you’re going to be at E3 and interested in stopping by to see Two Worlds II, Battle vs. Chess or nail’d, the three games that will definitely be there, then head to the South Hall of the LA Convention Center. SouthPeak’s at booth 2813. It’s neighbors are Take Two Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive.

Let’s take a closer look at the three games…

SouthPeak Interactive gets TNA game rights, game scheduled for 2010

The speculation about where the digital versions of Total Nonstop Action wrestling superstars will ply their trade for the next few years has ended in a surprise.

Not known for fighting or wrestling games for that matter, SouthPeak Interactive has purchased the rights to make TNA games.

A financial report revealed SouthPeak got the TNA assets in Midway’s bankruptcy sale and even has a games on the 2010 calendar: TNA iMPACT: Cross the Line for PSP/PSpgo and Nintendo DS.

Gamertell Review: Roogoo: Twisted Towers for Wii

Roogoo originally began as an affordable puzzle game available for Xbox Live Arcade and Windows PCs. For $10, you could go through falling block puzzles that would gradually get more and more challenging and frustrating, despite the incredibly simple controls and premise. It was bright, colorful and beloved by all.

Roogoo: Twisted Towers isn’t a port of the original game. A port would likely be much better. It’s definitely Roogoo, but a far more simplified version that doesn’t seem to possess the same addictive properties or challenge of the original.

The first thing you need to know is that Magical Meteors are good. They’re bright, colorful and, magically enough, come in a variety of fun shapes. They drop to the planet Roo, where the Roogoo live, and provide energy for the Roogoo…

Opinion: E3 could probably use a little more GameCock

One of the more colorful characters – in more ways than two – at the last two E3s was the raucous bunch of indie developers from GameCock Media.

Unfortunately, the company and its crazy antics were caged when bought by SouthPeak. That might have been a good thing for the company and meant gamers got to hold GameCock’s games in their hands a bit sooner but the loss of GameCock’s presence is noticeably and unfortunately missing from E3 2009.

SouthPeak Game’s E3 2009 lineup

SouthPeak Games is next on our list of companies that will presenting its latest games at E3 2009. SouthPeak is focusing on games for Xbox 360, Wii and DS including some first-person shooters and real-time strategy games for the Xbox 360 while keeping the puzzle and cooking games for the Nintendo crowd.

Previously, SouthPeak Games have been responsible for Velvet Assassin, Ninjatown and the Mushroom Men games.

SouthPeak Games can be found at booth #623 in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center. It’ll be offering some hands-on time with some of the games as well.

Check the Nintendo Channel to see Big Bang Mini fireworks

If you’ve got a Wii, a DS and Wi-Fi internet, you’re in for a surprise today. SouthPeak has released a free demo of its forthcoming DS game Big Bang Mini. The full game’s out January 22, 2009, just a few days from today, so you’ll be able to sample this unique shooter and determine if it’s something you’d enjoy. I can see now that I’m going to have something to check out when I get home. I love when decent demos appear on the Nintendo Channel. Makes me feel special.

The demo is really minuscule, compared to the full game. You get to play three different levels from three of the nine different worlds (Aurora, Hong Kong and Luxor). The goal of the game is partically to detonate fireworks, as well as complete other shooting challenges. The full game has nine worlds and over 90 levels…

Gamertell Review: Ninjatown for DS

Title: NinjatownPrice: $29.99System(s): Nintendo DSRelease Date: October 28, 2008Publisher (Developer): SouthPeak Games (Venan Entertainment and Cashmere Productions)ESRB Rating: “Everyone” for Crude Humor and Mild Cartoon ViolencePros: Incredibly clever writer, unique art style, great game-play, wonderful characters and lots of options to win each level. Also it comes with a Ninjatown window cling!Cons: Later levels can get challenging and Master Ninja microphone activated powers are annoying.Overall Score: Two thumbs up, 95/100, A, **** 1/2 out of 5

I can’t get enough of Ninjatown. Even when I had to replay “The Loop” level in the Business District three times, because the various business devils kept speeding through my defenses, I still couldn’t bring myself to get annoyed with this incredibly charming and funny tower-defense strategic RPG based on the Shawnimal toys.

Ninjatown may not be perfect, but it sure comes close. It is delightfully challenging, has a clever script, adorable characters, lots of unit options and special abilities which can single-handedly turn the tides of battle. If it weren’t for the occasionally frustrating Ol’ Master Ninja powers, Ninjatown would easily have earned a perfect score.

Roogoo crashing onto the DS and Wii

The meteor guiding puzzle game Roogoo is traveling to other platforms in 2009, specifically Nintendo platforms. Roogoo DS is headed to the DS and Roogoo Twisted Towers is coming for the Wii, thanks to SouthPeak. Both versions of the game will feature the same disk twisting gameplay that were found in the Xbox Live Arcade and PC versions of Roogoo, but will add in new gameplay modes, new levels and Wii-DS connectivity.

While both versions of Roogoo are about guiding meteors safely through over 100 levels and 10 different areas, it also seems there is a distinct focus on the multiplayer aspects the Wii and DS versions will provide. The DS version will have single-card and multi-card multiplayer options and new multiplayer attacks. The Wii version is going to have a four player multiplayer mode and also the option to go through the story campaign with a second player assisting you…
