Epic Games moves in a new direction with Fortnite

Naughty Dog wasn’t the only developer that announced something completely unexpected at the VGAs last night. Epic Games also unveiled one of its latest projects that doesn’t appear to be anything like the studio has put out recently. The game is called Fortnite, and it’s not something that involves guys carrying big guns and wearing heavy armor.

E3 2011: Deadliest Warrior Legends allows history’s greatest fighters to throw down

Deadliest Warrior, based on the hit Spike TV show, was a big surprise in 2010 with over 400,000 downloads on PSN and Xbox Live. Clearly, a lot of gamers wanted a videogame arena to settle those everlasting “Pirate vs Ninja” debates. A game with that many supporters is all but guaranteed a sequel. Deadiest Warrior Legends is on the way in July 2011, and follows the evolution of the TV show. The show started with generic archetypes and then began using specific historical figures.Legends will sport a cast of fighters including William Wallace, Shaka Zulu and Alexander the Great.

MTV Networks bounces back with 345 Games

MTV Games is not the last gaming effort we’ll see from MTV Networks. MTV Networks has a new division called 345 Games which will leverage its existing brands. 345 Games is going to work with independent developers on games that will be based on shows that air on Spike TV and Comedy Central. Along with an existing fan base and an already established marketing department, 345 Games has a decent chance at making financially successful products.

Cliffy B promises big Gears of War 3 surprise at 2010 Spike TV’s Video Game Awards

Not that video game lovers needed another reason to tune into the Spike TV Video Game Awards, but Epic Games is giving us one. Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski announced some exciting gameplay that’s “not what you’re expecting” from the much loved shooter series. “Cliffy B” isn’t giving out more than that, but has shot down rumors that Microsoft’s Kinect motion control would be used.

Xbox Live Update for the week of July 11 through 17, 2010

This week on Xbox Live, the eternal battle between pirates and ninjas can be resolved. Or pirates vs. Spartans. The popular Spike TV show Deadliest Warrior pits history’s greatest combatants against one another to see who would emerge victorious. Now a fighting game based on that principle is available on Xbox Live.

New Tron Legacy game trailer (with video)

One of the classics of science fiction is making its return to the movie screens with the upcoming Tron Legacy. Now, as it is the custom with most movies these days, a video game is also in the works and a quick teaser has been released.

The trailer shows several quick scenes depicting classic elements from the original movie. First you can get a glimpse of someone catching what looks like a disk, one of the staple weapons in the movie. There’s also a scene with a Recognizer, a towering two-legged machine resembling something out of Space Invaders. You can also get a look at the new version of the always awesome Light Cycles and, finally, there’s something about a virus.

Spike TV to premiere Assassins Creed: Lineage short film

With the rising success of Ubisoft’s Assassins Creed and Assassins Creed’s 2 (which comes out November 17, 2009 for Xbox 360 and PS3), Spike TV will be premiering in high-definition ,Assassins Creed: Lineage, a live-action and CGI short movie based on the video games.

Lineage takes place just before the events in AC2. It revolves around Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, the father of main character in the second game, Ezio, and provides a little insight on the back story of first game and the premise of the next.

The film was developed by Ubisoft’s Hybride Technologies, the visual effects company that worked on movies including 300 and Sin City.

Spike 2008 Video Game Award show winners, surprise announcements

Spike TV had it’s annual video game award show last night (December 14, 2008) and was hosted by comedian/rocker/award-show-host-extraordinaire, Jack Black.

The coveted Game of the Year award went to, you guessed it, Grand Theft Auto IV. Agree with it? Disagree with it? Take your frustration out in the comments section below.
