Japan Import: An updated version of 428: Fusa Sareta Shibuya de headed to iOS

If you own an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and can understand Japanese, then you’re in for a treat. It turns out Chunsoft’s beloved visual novel 428: Fusa Sareta Shibuya de (428: In a Blockaded Shibuya) is going to be updated with new scenarios and released on iOS devices. When, we don’t know, but it is going to happen, which means there’ll be one more blockbuster-quality game on iTunes.

428 is a port of a port, if you want to get technical. It was originally a Wii game, then a PS3 and PSP game, before development began on the iOS incarnation…

Cliffy B promises big Gears of War 3 surprise at 2010 Spike TV’s Video Game Awards

Not that video game lovers needed another reason to tune into the Spike TV Video Game Awards, but Epic Games is giving us one. Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski announced some exciting gameplay that’s “not what you’re expecting” from the much loved shooter series. “Cliffy B” isn’t giving out more than that, but has shot down rumors that Microsoft’s Kinect motion control would be used.

BioWare gives brief glimpse at next game

BioWare is almost ready to fully reveal its latest project. It has provided a really short teaser trailer today. The full reveal will be made during the 2010 Video Game Awards on Spike. The show starts on December 11, 2010 at 8pm ET or 5pm PT.

Gamertell Review: Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team for PSP

Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team covers what’s probably the most beloved part of the Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Z. It’s a fighting game that focuses on fast-paced flying action. Characters are constantly hovering and dashing around the fighting area, meaning you have to keep moving to keep up and have a chance at winning. All play modes encourage large matches, that can have between two and four characters fighting at once. And while the Battle Selection generally has 2 on 2 matches, the Free Battle and Dragon Walker modes can have 1 on 1, 1 vs 2 and 2 on 2 matches…

Uncharted 2 wins game of the year at Spike VGAs

Nathan Drake, it’s time to pop some champagne. Naughty Dog’s excellent PS3 action-adventure title took top honors at the Spike Video Game Awards this evening, causing quite a stir for folks expecting Modern Warfare 2 to win (based on its insane popularity). Also big news at the event – a sequel to Batman Arkham Asylum was announced, as was a sequel to Star Wars: The force Unleashed and a new True Crime game.

The Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble ultimate itinerary

The goal in Atlus’ latest PSP release, Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble, is to prove you are the ultimate high school bancho badass by beating up all of the other high schools’ banchos before the seven day school trip ends. But, you have to find the banchos before you can beat them up. This can be accomplished by beating up their underlings on the streets to collect school itineraries. Once you have an itinerary, you know exactly where you have to be to take the bosses down.

The thing is, itineraries can be quite difficult to find. You never know where you’ll find the right minions, and there’s a very real possibility that you’ll find the itinerary you need after the boss is no longer available in Kyouto.

That’s where Gamertell’s ultimate Kenka Bancho itinerary comes in. I’ve gone through and collected all the itineraries so you don’t have to. You’ll still have to actually be at the right place at the right time, but at least you don’t have to beat up meaningless minions first…

Gamertell Review: Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble for PSP

I think it’s fair to say that I’ve been captivated by Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble ever since I had the opportunity to play it for a hands-on preview. It is by far the quirkiest hack-and-slash style game I’ve ever played, and I never expected it to provide players with such freedom over their banchos’ actions. This has been a banner year for Atlus PSP games, and the amazing Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble easily belongs among great releases like Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, Steambot Chronicles: Battle Tournament, Class of Heroes and Crimson Gem Saga.

Takashi Sakamoto’s on a school trip. Not by choice, mind you. A school trip to Kyouto’s the last thing he’s interested in experiencing. But his teacher threatened horrible things if he didn’t go, so he’s trapped.

Once he arrives in Kyouto, he learns something that may make the whole trip worthwhile…

Gamertell Preview: Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble for PSP

Atlus and Spike’s Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble may not be in stores until November 10, 2009, but Gamertell’s been given the opportunity to test drive the latest quirky PSP game you never would have expected to see localized. To help get you introduced to banchosity and the badass world of the game, I’ll take you through the first day of Takashi Sakamoto’s class trip to Kyouto, Japan.

The game begins with some character customization. You determine where your character is from 47 different areas in Japan, what school he attends and what his name is. I went with the default name, Takashi Sakamoto, and decided to make him from Osaka.

One thing I want to point out right away are the loading screens. Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble has some really amazing loading screens. Instead of saying the typical “loading” message, each loading screen offers a “Bancho 101″ informational term explanation. Like, you could learn the definition of kappa, love hotel, sakura mochi and other terms, people or things that may pop up in the game…

2Bits: What about an Oscars equivalent for the video game industry?

In the latest installment of our gamer-vs-gamer debates known as 2Bits, a pair of Gamertell writers ponder the possibility – and possible necessity – of a major video game industry award.

Would an awards ceremony the size and spectacle of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science’s (AMPAS) Oscars be a positive and beneficial annual event for the industry or would it simply implode due to politics and overt commercialism?

Read opposing takes on the possibility (or actuality) of such an industry event…
