2Bits: What about an Oscars equivalent for the video game industry?

In the latest installment of our gamer-vs-gamer debates known as 2Bits, a pair of Gamertell writers ponder the possibility – and possible necessity – of a major video game industry award.

Would an awards ceremony the size and spectacle of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science’s (AMPAS) Oscars be a positive and beneficial annual event for the industry or would it simply implode due to politics and overt commercialism?

Spike 2008 Video Game Award show winners, surprise announcements

Spike TV had it’s annual video game award show last night (December 14, 2008) and was hosted by comedian/rocker/award-show-host-extraordinaire, Jack Black.

The coveted Game of the Year award went to, you guessed it, Grand Theft Auto IV. Agree with it? Disagree with it? Take your frustration out in the comments section below.

As for the other categories, not that you really care about those other games, here’s the complete list o’ winners…

Nominees for Spike TV’s Video Game Awards announced

Another year and another Video Game Awards show. Better known as SpikeTV’s VGAs, this will be the sixth year for the show.

Love it or loath it the show will go on in full spectacle that will include a performance by rapper turned-video game character, 50 Cent, and a “Gamer God” award for Will Wright.

The list this year looks fairly promising without too much of one game in your face like last year’s seven nominations for a certain alien-shooting game and a game about an undersea dystopia.

Nominees for SpikeTV’s 2007 Video Game Awards revealed

SpikeTV has announced the nominees for its Video Game Awards show. The nominees were chosen by SpikeTV’s advisory panel, made up of two dozen game journalists, that were released between November 16, 2006, and December 1, 2007.
