THQ grabs multi-year SpongeBob license

THQ and Spongebob are a match made in a pineapple under the sea. Today the company announced it has signed a multi-year license that grants it the rights to develop and publish any game bearing the SpongeBob SquarePants name.

Burger King’s Spongebob kids meal toys, Beach Party Cook-Off coupon

This must be the month to promote video games at fast food restaurants. If you head to Burger King for the next couple weeks, you can pick up a cheap Kids Meal with a Spongebob Squarepants toy and a video game coupon.

The coupon is for US$5 off THQ’s Cooking Mama-esque SpongeBob vs. The Big One: Beach Party Cook-Off for DS when purchased at Toys R Us. The game retails for $29.99 and was released march 3, 2009. The coupon is good April 6, 2009, through May 31, 2009, and is part of the mini booklet that comes with each toy.

Get ready to cook with SpongeBob on the DS

Another Spongebob games is in the works, and this time it sounds like it might just be a Cooking Mama clone. THQ, responsible for other Spongebob games like , Spongebob Squarepants: Atlantis Squarepants, Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab, will be bringing Spongebob Squarepants Frantic Fry Cook sometime in March, 2009. An exact release date hasn’t been given.

Spongebob Squarepants Frantic Fry Cook is going to be a DS exclusive game, as players will be using the touch screen to cook while working at the Krusty Krab. There will be 25 different activities that players will have to master in order to cook over 100 recipes…

Toys R Us Back-To-School game sale, free Clone Wars backpack offer

A recent ad for the Toys R Us retail chain shows several discounted games as well as a free Star Wars: Clone Wars backpack offer. The sales started August 17, 2008, and continue through August 23, 2008.

The backpack, likely meant for kids (but that doesn’t mean you can’t have one too), retails for $10.99 but is free if you spend more than $30 on Star Wars stuff by August 23, 2008.
