Every year some player has an issue with his player rating or some other aspect of his Madden NFL representation. As far as Minnesota Vikings long snapper Cullen Loeffler is concerned, they should be happy. They’re at least in the game. Madden NFL doesn’t include long snappers so Loeffler and his special teams brethren are up in arms.

The Golden Joystick Awards has revealed the nominees for the category of Sports Games of the Year for the 2010 event. This includes unsurprising entries such as Madden NFL 10, and questionable ones such as Wii Fit Plus.

Video games have made it to the forefront of a debate regarding what is fair usage of an athlete’s likeness.

Michigan’s House Bill 5964 (2010) deals with an individual’s right to control the commercial use of their likeness.

The proposed House Bill’s introduction states that it is:

A bill to create certain rights in attributes of an individual that have commercial value; to recognize transfer of those rights; to provide exceptions; to provide penalties and remedies; and to provide for powers and duties of certain state officers and departments.

EA Sports has announced Johnson as the play-by-play man for Madden NFL 11. This is art influencing life as Johnson may now be best identified with a Denver Broncos’ play inspired, in part, by video game-style football.

With a game franchise such as Grand Theft Auto, you can change a million details if necessary to improve the game. In an NFL simulation though, a designer has to play by the basic rules of the league. Also, EA Sports has to put this game out every year, so it’s little wonder franchise fatigue is a concern. Madden NFL 2010 really stepped up its game with gang tackling animations and interactive mini-games allowing you to “Fight for the Fumble.”
