Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV arriving on PSN September 20

Time to savor and remember the classics as two of Square Enix’s best games are heading to the North American PlayStation Store. Well, technically they’re two of Square’s best games, but let’s not quibble. Instead, let’s just be happy that we’ll be able to play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV on our PS3s and PSPs since both games are becoming PSone Classics September 20, 2011….

Important Importables: Square Enix

Square Enix is like a member of the family for most gamers. The company has been around forever and is one of the biggest publishers and developers out there. It’s best known for its days as Square, when it made a name for itself creating some of the best RPGs ever, and has since branched out since acquiring Enix, Eidos and Taito to cover multiple genres. If you’ve been playing games for any substantial period of time, then odds are you’ve played at least one Square Enix game.

Which is why we’re looking back at the company in today’s Important Importables. We’re just briefly reviewing the company’s history, then offering up a few classic game suggestions in case you have some spare time and feel like reliving, or perhaps making, some memories.

Square PSOne Classic influx continues with Legend of Mana

The Square classics just keep arriving on the PlayStation Store. Square Enix is now preparing Legend of Mana the fourth mana game, for a North American release tomorrow. Took the company long enough! Legend of Mana has been a Japanese PSOne Classic since July 2010!

Legend of Mana is the only Mana game to utilize the Land Make system…

Play Parasite Eve before The 3rd Birthday

The 3rd Birthday comes out March 29, 2011, but oh no! You’ve never played a Parasite Eve game before and you have absolutely no idea who Aya Brea is! Yes, I know we’re in the internet age and Wikipedia is just a mouse click away, but play along. Well, on March 15, 2011, you’ll be able to educate yourself with Parasite Eve It’s coming to the PlayStation Store that day, so PSP and PS3 owners can relive Aya’s first adventure.

This isn’t surprising given what success the original release enjoyed…

After 2 years Vagrant Story appears on the North American PSN

Wow! This is obviously a good year for classic Square games. First, we get Xenogears on the PSN on February 22, 2011. Now, a week later, Vagrant Story will be added to the PlayStation Store on March 1, 2011. Not too bad…

Dungeon Siege III gets a release date

Square Enix seems to have hit a bit of a rough patch with the jokes that were Final Fantasy XIV and Mindjack. But that’s a story for a different time. Rather than looking to the past, we’re going to be looking to the future. There’s the obvious game changer that might revitalize Square that’s coming out next month, Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Then there’s the thing that might revitalize Square in the RPG market, Dungeon Siege III.

Square announced the official release date for Dungeon Siege III.

Gamertell Review: Final Fantasy XIII for PS3, Xbox 360

Final Fantasy XIII, like the past few predecessors, is not a jump-in-and-play game. It requires a lot of time and either attention or a willingness to skip hours of amazing cut scenes.

There’s also quite a learning curve and a long, long while before the action becomes interesting yet never quite comes close to outweighing the story.

But is it worth the $60 price tag and leap from exclusivity to a second system?

Square Enix reveals new Final Fantasy XIV details

With Final Fantasy XIII recently released, Square is already putting the finishing touches on the next entry in the franchise: Final Fantasy XIV.

FFXIV will be a massively multiplayer online role-playing Game (MMORPG) set in the world of Hydaelyn. The story revolves around different guilds – remnants of an alliance to fight off an invading army – and adventurers that roam the land of Eorzea. Players will be able to choose from five different races: The elf-like Elezen, the small and agile Lalafell, the human-like Hyur, the giant Roegadyn and the cat-like Miqo’te.

5 Most romantic Final Fantasy games

While all of the Final Fantasy games are generally about saving the world, or many of the people in it, another common theme is love. Whether it’s an entry like Final Fantasy VIII, where the love story is a prominent part of the story of Final Fantasy VI, where it’s only slightly touched about, the games frequently focus on the development of relationships between characters.

With Valentines Day drawing near, it seems only appropriate to highlight some of the more romantic entries in the Final Fantasy series. So to help you get in the romantic mood and possibly find some holiday gaming material, Gamertell has gathered together five of the most romantic Final Fantasy games and looked at what exactly makes them so memorable…

10 Square Enix ports and remakes we wouldn’t mind seeing

The Chrono Trigger DS port, Final Fantasy Legend II DS remake and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Wii port are Square Enix’s most recent resurrections of popular games. The company has no problem milking successful Square or Enix games in an attempt to make more money and saturate the market with its products.

Fans accept this action for the most part. It gives gamers who’ve never had the opportunity to play the original games to experience classics, and gives fans an updated and (hopefully) improved version of one of their favorite games.

Gamertell’s compiled a list of 10 games, five from Square and five from Enix, that are due for a remake or port.
