Analysis: Netflix might make way to DS, iPhone, other portables

Now that Netflix is close to being released for the Wii, which will make it available on all three current gen home consoles, it seems a little more likely that the paid video service will be available on handheld devices including cell phone, Nintendo’s DS line and all the Apple App products (iPhone, iPod Touch).

The best indicators are that Netflix is already promised for iPad on launch day and that Nintendo has Netflix on its mind for the DS.

I just received my Netflix for Wii streaming disc and info packet from Nintendo.

Naturally, it was packaged in a Netflix style envelope (though still in a box since it came from a PR company and all).

Neflix streaming to Wii will begin April 16, 2010, and requires a Netflix disc be inserted into your Wii console.

Wii will soon offer streaming video in Japan

Nintendo has finally decided to join the “now generation” and offer a little bit more in terms of multimedia – at least in Japan. According to a recent item at Gamasutra, the company just signed a deal with advertising firm Dentsu and “will include some ad-supported but free videos, and some pay-to-watch videos”
