UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce may knock out EA Sports MMA

Putting an end to the EA Sports MMA franchise probably was not the reason for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s parent company buying rival promotion Strikeforce. Given UFC President Dana White’s less-than-friendly relationship with EA, consider it a side effect that he’s likely enjoying. UFC’s purchase of Strikeforce gives it a near monopoly on the mixed martial arts scene. UFC was the promotion chosen for THQ’s hit Undisputed franchise.

EA Sports MMA has tied itself to Strikeforce, a mixed martial arts promotion not quite as popular as the Ultimate Fighting Championship licensed to THQ for its Undisputed games. While UFC has more fans, Strikeforce has been able to argue that it has the best fighter in the world in Fedor Emelianenko. EA Sports could (and has) claimed to have the best fighter in MMA as its cover athlete.

TGS 2008: Koei bringing out new Dynasty Warrior games in 2009

Yep, it’s about that time of the year when Koei unleashes yet another iteration of its hack and slash series, Dynasty Warriors, upon us and this year we must have been extra good because we aren’t getting just one game, but two: Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce for the PlayStation Portable and Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are both slated for a 2009 release.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce will add a multiplayer co-op mode to the action, so warriors won’t be as lonely on the field as they take out hundreds of cannon fodder soldiers, fortresses and beasts. Alongside DW: Strikeforce will be the return of…
